pride4jc1222 Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 Sam Smith and Kim Petras claim third consecutive week at Number 1 with Unholy 14 October 2022 By Carl Smith Unholy retains the top spot for a third week, but could Beyonce's CUFF IT pose a threat next week? Sam Smith and Kim Petras reign atop the Official Singles Chart for a third consecutive week with their hit Unholy. The track now levels with Sam’s 2017 single Too Good At Goodbyes as their second-longest-running Number 1 hit, with both songs boasting three consecutive weeks at the top. But could Beyoncé give the pair a run for their money next week? The star’s latest single CUFF IT (5) jumps five spots to break the Top 5 for the first time this week in the track’s eleventh week on chart after proving a viral smash on social media. Elsewhere, Anne-Marie and Aitch’s PSYCHO continues its ascent up the Official Singles Chart to bag a new best, breaking the Top 10 for the first time (9). It’s Aitch’s first of three appearances in this week’s Top 40, with Ed Sheeran collaboration My G (14) and Tion Wayne team-up Let’s Go making its debut (30). The TikTok effect sees Tom Odell’s Another Love lift 5 spots to Number 13 this week after the song began trending alongside protest videos, including by Iranian women in response to the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. Another Love rises to its highest chart peak since July 2013. A flurry of singles boast new peaks throughout this week’s Top 20; Lizzo’s 2 Be Loved (Am I Ready) (16), Afrobeats star Rema’s Calm Down (17), Burna Boy and Ed Sheeran’s For My Hand (18) and Irish singer-songwriter Cian Ducrot’s All For You (19). Venbee and Goddard’s trending track Messy In Heaven continues to rocket up the chart, vaulting 18 spots (20). American songwriter d4vd sees his single Romantic Suicide rise to Number 22, while the week’s highest new entry comes courtesy of Mimi Webb. Her latest track Ghost Of You, taken from upcoming debut album Amelia, makes a strong start at Number 23. Oliver Tree and Robin Schulz also boast a new Top 40 entry with Miss You (28). Other tracks on the ascent and enjoying new peaks this week are Fred Again.. and Swedish House Mafia’s Turn On The Lights Again (27), Omar Apollo’s Evergreen (You Didn’t Deserve Me At All), Jax’s breakout single Victoria’s Secret (33), Warm by K-Trap (34), and All These Nights leaps 27 places for Tom Grennan (37). Dermot Kennedy’s latest single Kiss Me proves to be one to watch as it soars up the chart, jumping 14 to a new Number 39 best, becoming his sixth Top 40 hit. And finally, Lil Nas X sees Star Walkin’ become his seventh UK Top 40 hit to date after climbing two to Number 40.
PoisonPill Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 This always felt like the obvious smash from the album, though it's probably the most basic track. I still think with the right push, AS could've been a giant worldwide hit... but sometimes you gotta go with what the gp and the industry have already chosen.

WEEKND Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 Can we DM her maybe she doesn’t know the album is doing good.
naval23 Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 UK loves her - the fact that they stanned her flop "Best Thing I Never Had" and 4 went multiplaitnum there
PrudenceHCharmed Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 Another effortless hit. Hope it can be #1!
Doogle Posted October 15, 2022 Posted October 15, 2022 The UK is a disaster of a country that doesn’t even support its own female artists for more than one era unless they get big WW like Adele or Dua (and even then Leona didn’t get that luxury) But we are seemingly loyal to the big American/Canadian/Australian etc artists Bey has been huge in the UK since her debut and even when she wasn’t charting well I heard Lemonade songs in clubs and on the radio anyway. And her touring speaks for itself. To see her as a chart force again is a joy. Shame I’m not even there to be hearing her out in the wild all the time.

Yeah, she's been consistently successful in the UK since about 2000. The Survivor era was her first huge moment in the UK and that was 2001.

Incidentally my first memories when I was old enough to be aware of my surroundings was watching Survivor on the music channel aged 4. As soon as my brain developed enough to have memories Bey was there that video is ingrained in me
Timber Posted October 15, 2022 Posted October 15, 2022 I love that Bey is doing well worldwide. She really hasn’t done this with her own song for a while, which could reinvigorate interest in her and give her new fans. This will help give her even more of a push for touring.

One of the things that made me fall in love with her as an artist and performer.

It seems more difficult for homegrown female (especially black) artists in the UK to have prolonged succcess in the UK. They often debut big and then fall off, even if their subsequent albums are just as good if not better. To name a few: - Mica Paris - Corinne Bailey Rae - Leona Lewis - Alexandra Burke - Laura Mvula - Emeli Sande Beverley Knight managed to buck the trend and have hits throughout the 90s and 2000s from R&B to Pop-Rock. But Duffy couldn't with one of the biggest debut eras.

It’s always a cute hit at the start of the second era and then the wheels fall off. We like shiny and new apparently Mica is amazing. One of my mum’s favourites actually.
