I think I said it the wrong way, the right way is Latinos and Arabs that don’t have afro or indigenous roots are white. And yes they are a minority.

I disagree. North Africans, Middle Easterners etc. are definitely not considered "white" in America, just like how Asians and East Asians aren't considered white. The fact you were born to immigrants or is an immigrant from a Mediterranean yourself doesn't turn you into a white man, even if your complexion is white.

You're merging privilege and socioeconomic status with whiteness, but they are not definitely synonymous

A lot of Italians have African ancestry and don't like being lumped in with "white people". They were lynched at one point. I remember visiting an Italian friend's home in NY for family dinner and they were talking about how they aren't "white" and his father was boasting about how is grandfather was "Negro." :deadbanana2:

Here's an interesting article about the subject.

Darker skinned southern Italians endured the penalties of blackness on both sides of the Atlantic. In Italy, Northerners had long held that Southerners — particularly Sicilians — were an “uncivilized” and racially inferior people, too obviously African to be part of Europe.

Southern and Central Italians are mixed with slaves brought from Western Asia by the Roman Empire. In Northern Italians this ancestry is more diluted.

That's why they diverge genetically. Latins were more similar to Northern Italians than to modern Southern Italians. Look at the Republican era and Imperial era.

Americans are so obsessed with color but don't really know anything about it :dies:

I know. :clap3:Many Americans probably dont know that years ago Italians would get the same derogatory words thrown at them that are also used against black people.

also, I have been told Italians are considered a visible minority in New York employment laws and have advantageous terms in the hiring process.

Tommy Mottola(Mariah's ex husband / CEO of Sony) said that people told him his surname was too ethnic. He said that he had to go by TD Valentine when he wanted to be a popstar.

He probably doesn’t feel white, cause the general idea in the US is that white= Anglo saxon.

But most Italians, Spanirds, Latinos and Arabs are white. Unless they has direct indigenous or afro ancestry they are white.

Arabs (and Northern Indians) are Caucasians but def not white... To me as a non-white person white is European ancestry, so that includes Southern and Eastern Europe as well.

I'm not gay, I'm homosexual.

This is completely expected. No one wants to be white anymore unless you're a Republican.

Her, making it a racial thing is wrong, like, why would anyone care about that rather than their role in politics itself?

Italians, along with Irish people are "New Whites". Meaning they became white in the United States later than the British.

Still white though. Just go read about the creation of 'whiteness' in the US, hell, google Bacon's Rebellion.
