Nintendo is a bulletproof brand when it comes to critic reviews. This is the case for both their games and as we can see here their film productions.

Going to see this tonight! So excited and I'm totally going in my Mario t-shirt :flower:

Why Wednesday and not a Friday release

ot: Miyamoto wins again and i  can’t stand it

Probably for the Easter holiday this week and to capitalize on a lot of the US being on Spring Break/holiday? Just a guess tbh

Quality lost but at least ATJ and Charlie Day have a smash on their resumes

Audience scores in China are GREAT:

• 9.4 on Maoyan (biggest movie tickening platform) - best score for an animated Hollywood movie in the past five years.

• 8.2 on Douban (China's IMDb).

But the movie is already collapsing, wtf :deadbanana4:.

China is DONE with Hollywood. They only care about Avatar. I'm pretty sure the next Fast & Furious and Transformer movies will flop too.

@BNF91 What do you think?

It's Mario BROS, the world's largest portable game franchise ever! it is obvious that it was going to sweep the box office

As a huge nintendo fan, this was such a TREAT to watch. yes, simple plot but jesus the fan service here is wild. so many easter eggs, my eyes didnt know where to go. the soundtrack made me emotional at times. nostalgia at its absolute best. people trying to drag it w/ “ofc superfans will like it” like thats not all that it needs to do.

its already on track to beat minions opening weekend and will have an enormous 127m 5- day weekend. any casual mario fan will really enjoy it. its a blockbuster smasha i fear!

I heard good things about it from real people. Gonna watch it next week.

Honestly my biggest complaint is the unnecessary use licensed music. Mario has such a huge catalog of great music that it was not at all needed

Yeah China ain't friendly to Hollywood anymore. There might be some random surprises here and there (aka any films the CCP doesn't see as a threat to their own domestic films, or Avatar).

Anyways aside from China these numbers are insane. Japan and South Korea haven't even opened yet and we are looking at a $350-380M 5-day global debut. Wow.

Thursday domestic was incredible. $26M. Amazing hold. Domestic 5-day could challenge $200M.

Not true. The 1993 live action movie flopped massively.

Anyway, the GPs reaction has now made me want to watch this again, and I hope Grace Randolf is fuming no one's taking her sh!tty review seriously. :rip:

Saw it last night. Most of the audience were adults :dies:  Overall it was a cute & enjoyable movie but the pacing was so fast that I couldn’t fully immerse myself into the world & environment at times, which was too bad because it was very beautiful. I also found myself too busy looking at easter eggs moments during the 1st half but that was on me I guess :toofunny2:

This is a beast.. $45-50M Friday incoming. $1B+ seems all but locked.

Why the mods merged this thread and the box office and RT threads? We already have like 10 Joker threads, 10 "Taylor is so successful omg" threads, etc. and these are still separate/open. :what:

Some people only like to post in specific threads, not the main movie threads...
