This thread focuses on the happenings of the 2022-23 NHL season.

The Colorado Avalanche spoiled the Tampa Bay Lightning's three-peat bid by winning the Stanley Cup four games to two.  Juraj Slafkovský went #1st overall in the 2022 NHL Draft, selected by the Montréal Canadiens.

For the first time since 2019, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic the past two seasons, games in Europe will be held again, with the Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks playing at O2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic in a home-and-home on October 7th and 8th and the Columbus Blue Jackets and the defending Stanley Cup Champions Colorado Avalanche at Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland on November 4th and 5th in home-and-home.

The NHL All-Star Game will be held in Sunrise, Florida on February 4th, 2023 at FLA Live Arena.

The Winter Classic will be held on January 2nd, 2023 at Fenway Park between the Boston Bruins and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Stadium Series will be held on February 18th, 2023 at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, NC between the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitols.

In the USA, as of last season, the league televises games on ESPN and TNT, with games also airing on ESPN+/Hulu on streaming and ABC on linear for the ESPN package and some games (mainly playoffs) also on TBS for the TNT package.

Ian Cole is in some hot water, as his team suspended him for sexual abuse allegations.

ESPN:

The Tampa Bay Lightning suspended defenseman Ian Cole on Sunday night pending an investigation into allegations made on social media that he sexually abused a woman when she was a minor.

In a statement, the Lightning said they are aware of the allegations against Cole and are cooperating fully with the NHL on an investigation.

"Our organization takes these allegations very seriously," the team's statement read. "While we continue to gather more details, we have decided to suspend Ian Cole pending the results of an investigation. No members of the organization, including players, will comment further at this time."

Have fun! I’ve never been to a game in person (yet). Is it a home team game?

That’s my second team since I’m from NY. :gaycat2: I would recommend wearing their colors or one of their colors. It’s always fun going with the majority/home team fan colors so everyone feels camaraderie.

I did! Also, I enjoyed the game!!

That final goal was pretty exciting. Finally a NY sports team winning :skull: I'm gonna watch some more hockey 101 stuff and try to follow the season.

Yay! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Not you saying NY teams don’t win when y’all have the Yankees for baseball. :dies: I definitely think if you get a few basics like icing and whatnot, it’ll be easy to jump in to having a great time getting into it. :eddie:

St. Louis Blues are on a big 8-game losing skid, and all 8 of those came in regulation.

I had to look this up. :deadbanana: But it seems they broke that today.

My team has been a mixed bag of losing and winning. It’s been a headache.

The St. Louis Blues keep getting hotter, as they won their 7th straight last night in a 3-1 over the Ducks. Just over 2 weeks ago, lots of Blues fans were ready to write this team off after 8 straight regulation losses.

The New Jersey Devils are the best team in hockey so far this season. The funny thing is that I won tickets to a Devils game at an auction in November 2021. I saw that the team was going nowhere, so I decided to hold on to them for a game during the 2022-23 season. I'm going to see the Devils play the Flyers on 2/25/2023. Oh, and I'm going to see the Eagles play the Saints on New Year's Day. What a great time for me as an Eagles and Devils fan.

2023 NHL All Star Game's Skills Competition adds 3 events: Enterprise NHL Splash Shot, Chipotle NHL Pitch 'n Puck, and the Discover NHL Tendy Tandem.

The 2023 NHL All-Star Skills presented by Draftkings Sportsbook will feature three new events.

Two of the new events, the Enterprise NHL Splash Shot and Chipotle NHL Pitch 'n Puck, will feature players displaying their skills in outdoor environments that typify Florida. Also new is the Discover NHL Tendy Tandem, an innovative goaltending skills test.

The Enterprise NHL Splash Shot will be on the beach at Fort Lauderdale and feature eight players, divided into four teams of two. Players are required to hit all the targets before attempting to dunk their opponents, the winner being the one to dunk his or her opponents first.

The Chipotle NHL Pitch 'n Puck will have players combine their hockey and golf skills on a par-4 golf hole featuring an island green. Six players will participate, the winner being the one who successfully sinks the puck/ball in the hole with the fewest shots using a combination of hockey and golf shots. If there's a tie, the longest drive determines the winner.

In the Discover NHL Tendy Tandem, eight goalies will work in tandems, one shooting and the other in net (Central vs. Pacific and Atlantic vs. Metro divisions). The shooting goalie from a division will take a shot from a designated mark and will be awarded three points if the shot goes in the hole, two if it hits the in-net target and zero if it misses the net.
