It’s extremely surprising actually. It’s a ******* mermaid. White peoples don’t have ownership over mermaids. The first mermaid story was Syrian. It’s more surprising that white people continue to monopolise on and profit on other cultures intellectual property and artistry. 
 

Why would a mermaid being black - a literal fictional character from a movie that doesn’t rely on race to authentically tell the story - cause controversy? It’s not like it’s a movie about white privilege, colonialism, murder of minorities, displacement of aboriginal peoples that require the main character to be white so they can be authentic to the shitty nature of white people. 
 

It’s about a young girl doing stupid **** for an ungrateful, emotionally unaware man that doesn’t deserve her. All races suffer that.
