"Late Night Talking" could jump to #2 on the Hot 100

how weak are the charts :deadbanana4: at this point chart positions are becoming meaningless

I agree. I’ve questioned the legitimacy of the charts since the beginning of 2020, when they removed UGC from the Hot 100 formula and didn’t really do anything with sales. The fact that As It Was, with only 2 weeks at #1 in streaming is about to challenge Uptown Funk’s 14 weeks at #1 doesn’t sit well with me. Don’t forget about the Butter debacle last year.

AIW isn’t even as big as Stay. I mean, Stay had some strong weeks even before the competition weakened post-CLB. I’d be willing to bet if Stay was smashing this year, it would have probably broken the OTR record.

I love the song but wow

The song is clearly a hit. Has positive radio callouts, people love to hear it on the radio and its getting ~10m streams weekly. We've had far bigger radio-fueled hits so I dont understand this outrage. Pressed much?

Babe … a#2 song should not just barely getting 10m streams . Plz be fkn fr. That doesn’t make any sense

It's like the constant backlash and draggings is making him smash harder (at least on the charts):rip:

Agreed, and this is why Billboard needs to remove sales and lower radio’s influence on the Hot 100. Not to mention, what Harry is doing with LNT is a blatant form of manipulation. That said, he is far from the only artist taking advantage of it. However, Billboard needs to crack down on this before this gets totally out of hand and we have another Butter situation.

Love this one so much more than As It Was

Why are some of you expecting huge streams from the 2nd single of an album released in May? :rip:  of course they won't be. Blame it on the charts being weak...

I actually wonder how much UGC would’ve been manipulated if it continued

but I agree that was a huge misstep from Billboard. They could’ve handled that better

As It Was is the fastest song to reach 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900M, 1 billion, 1.1 billion, and 1.2 billion streams. It's still doing 5M+ streams a day. It's literally #1 on Global Spotify RIGHT NOW. His immense radio power comes down to the fact that

1. He has incredible streaming numbers. Late Night Talking is a post album single released FOUR MONTHS AGO.

2. Radio audiences love him. His callouts are always positive and he actually blocks himself because his songs have crazy longevity and block each other. It happened with Adore You, then with Watermelon Sugar, then with Golden. Now it happened with As It Was and Late Night Talking, and it'll probably happen with MFASR.

Radio is a form of consumption. Radio audiences are actually A LOT higher than streaming audiences. 95 million people listened to the #1 song on the radio these past 7 days in the US alone, that's 13M+ daily... in one country. Meanwhile the most streamed song on Spotify WORLDWIDE has 5M+ (both happen to be the same song, to boot). Just because you don't happen to listen to the radio doesn't mean it's not a valid form of consumption. Radios are not just played by individuals, they're played at supermarkets, malls, coffee stores, clothing stores.

As It Was is definitely bigger than Stay. In fact, it's even possible it'll end up above Stay in the Hot 100 Year End. Stay is on the cliff of going recurrent and if it goes recurrent for even a week during this tracking season (10 weeks left), As It Was will end up above it. And Stay has 20 more weeks on the chart than As It Was in the Year End (going by Billboard's weird cutoffs), that's 20 out of 52 btw :skull:

Yeah, the charts are "weaker" (they're actually more diversified and people are tuning more to old songs), but for As It Was to even have a chance to sneak past Stay in the year end, it has to have pulled way way way bigger numbers in points this whole year. So... uh, yeah, it's bigger in the US, duh. And it's bigger worldwide.

Stay vs As It Was worldwide

As It Was is a smash. It's a future Diamond single

It spent 13 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Global chart which doesn't include radio or website sales.

The post you quoted was talking about LNT

AIW is still doing great on Streaming (#7 this week after 5 months of release).

According to the last Radio Songs chart Lizzo was #1 on Radio Songs last week. AIW is #2

https://www.billboard.com/charts/radio-songs/

"As It was" spent 4 weeks at #1 on Radio Songs in May and it could return to #1 for a 5th week next week because Lizzo is falling faster on radio.

"First Class" (4 weeks at #1)

"About Damn Time" (9 weeks at #1)  :deadbanana:

My thought exactly. It's the kind of situation that only a few artists get in their regal era (TEOM, The Fame, Loud, 1989, TUN)
