It’s a fact that progressive policies are popular with all Americans. The problem is that Republicans fear monger by connecting everything to “socialism,” and the base falls for it every time, voting against their own interests.

Scranton has a whole TV shows about it so it’s not rural

Scranton isn’t rural tho, it’s a city.  There are also a lot of universities in the area, so a large percentage of students who most likely have student debt.

Scranton is not “rural” or part of the “heartland”  It’s a reliably blue city.

Which is why they talked to farmers  and people visiting from surrounding counties.  Scranton urbanizes portions of  Lackawanna but not the entire county nor the rural counties surrounding it from the north and east.

They talked to one farmer and used that to imply everyone else is from a similar background.  The other people they talked to own a boutique + salon in downtown Scranton, work in a pharmacy downtown, etc.

I know people are reacting to the clip as if CNN is an alt right source that accidentally discovered people support student loan forgiveness but I think they didn’t actually set out to find republicans. Whoever produced this segment is clearly not that naive and wanted to prove that lots of different people support forgiving student loans. They wouldn’t go to a city, literally “Biden’s hometown”, if they honestly wanted to find republicans against forgiving student loans. There’s tons of tiny towns in rural PA that are covered in Let’s Go Brandon and Trump 202X signs. Plus Scranton is a relatively direct two hour drive from NY and let’s them use a cute little headline.
