Elton is having a huge decade so far (3 hits) / most successful since the 90s

He really is just a huge talent AND one of the most respected artists in general. Even more he’s the one carrying most these hits lately song input wise.

Good for him. :clap3:

A gay icon still killing it. ATRL's perpetually bitter faguettes can stay pressed.

I think the fact that his tour already grossed nearly 500M and it's possibly coming to became the biggest tour ever (+800M) way more impressive

No, he’s enjoying releasing hits after hits in the 2020’s. Not everyone has that :1stplace:

I mean he only did that recently, Madonna has been doing that for over a decade already and more cringe ways…

True. Elton is such a legend

It’s crazy how Madonna gets dragged and called desperate by working with younger hot artists while this man gets praised for it…

the misogyny…

There's some misogyny on that but ALSO, the songs released by Elton were actually digestible, unlike whatever she tried to do with Medellin :rip:

i too agree with the social boundaries that are stopping an act like Madonna from achieving this late career hitmaking period but like others have mentioned... she hasnt really tried for chart relevancy and success since the MDNA era. Elton basically got lucky with Cold Heart and he is riding his wave- and it being an actually good song helps.

Maybe her Saucy Santana song will smash?

It's only because he's a man. The music he's putting out is horrendous, cheap fodder. Older pop star females like Janet or Madonna would never be allowed on radio like old men such as Elton are.

I don't think anyone in the GP thinks of Cold Heart as an Elton John song. :rip:

Why would it when the original didn’t, Saucy has zero charting power, and the song virtually has no push whatsoever :rip:

OT - good for Elton!

It's almost as if his "swan-song" era with Rocketman, Lion King etc. didn't garner enough attention as Covid-19 outsold him..... so he's still here. :skull: Looks a tad desperate. These duets cheapen the quality of the originals.

Is he trying to surpass the sales of his arch-nemesis Madonna before he actually retires?

What a load of hatred because he's being celebrated for his longevity...and talking about cheapening quality of originals with duets...:coffee2:

Glad he's still getting success.

Elton has proved his longevity with his hits and songwriting. He’s been able to turn older songs into #1 hits for two decades now which is a testament to his original hits. I’m not a fan because I find him to be a rude person and a misogynist, but let’s not downplay his business acumen. He combined his winning formula of song remixes/duets from the 2000s and interpolating mash-ups of older hits from the 2010s and then added in massively relevant artists from the 2020s.

I have no doubt the female artists could do it, too. They remixed a Japanese bonus track from Whitney and it became a massive hit and Kate Bush has the biggest female song of 2022 with a 40 year old song.

The jealousy just because a Britney song is stomping. Grow up and move on, babe.

This is impressive because he is old and still getting hits. Let’s be honest though, if he was releasing solo singles they’d bomb (at least in the US).

But I think it really interesting how he is reinventing his own classics with Cold Heart and Hold Me Closer. I can see him setting a trend where artists will rework some of their classics once they get older.

He’s been doing this for two decades, baby.

2002 - Sorry Seems to Be The Hardest Word - Blue & Elton John - U.K. #1

2003 - Are You Ready For Love (Remix) - Ashley Beedle & Elton John - U.K. #1

2009 - Tiny Dancer (Hold Me Closer) - Ironik & Chipmunk & Elton John - U.K. #3

2010 - Poker Face/Speechless/Your Song - Lady Gaga & Elton John - Canada #94

2021 - Cold Heart - U.K. #1 / U.S. #7

Elton also started working with Pnau to redo his classics back in 2012!

Is it considered longevity these days with re-released old music? :mandown:Interesting.

If anything, he was smart to select Dua Lipa at the PEAK time people were looking for a post-Levitating single to spin on radio, and smart to deflate the sails of Britney's pent-up demand and support for post-independence music with *checks notes* .... another old Elton track.

Elton also had previously teamed up with George Michael on a remake of his 70's song Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me which reached #1 in the US  and UK in 1992.

With positivity in mind, or when you make classic music instead of sampling quality original music and declassing the essence you get to take your music and introduce/reintroduce it to a new generation.

I mean this was done with Cyndi Lauper's True colors and I hope the likes of Janet, Madonna, Garth brooks, classic rock bands etc. can do that so timeless lyrics can reach maximum exposure.

There's nothing negative about that.

I do wish it was I'm still standing but Hold me closer tiny dancer is proper as is.

We should support legends (not selectively):matty:

Congrats Sir Elton your longevity as people's stomach's bubbling. IMPACT

If Elton had any common sense, he would have made a record like Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, stayed away from trendy artists and just been a great singer and made great records, which he does brilliantly. But no, he had to prove that he was like… And he looks like a ******* fairground stripper

Yes. Some sort of allegorical, end of life, Wizard of Oz-narrative-influenced MASTERPIECE.

Instead, he's phoning it in when he could be making his most ambitious album yet and having the critics eat out of his hands.

well the thing is... he doesnt need that. Better to have a last hurrah on the charts and reap the commercial/financial benefits of your past work in a new way than create a body of work that while may be acclaimed, may not do well and go unnoticed by the public. Elton's always been about making hits as well as great songs and so he found a way to get both to an extent and i respect that. its a way forward that can be perfected by future stars or current ones who are where he is now.
