Despite being solely instrumental, Clairo kind of ended up making a thesis statement for the entire ethos of Sling 

with this track and ended up with a very clear highlight.

The production on clairo's album was superior so that instrumental track was definitely a highlight x

In a very... Lana Del Rey esque moment? This song captures a singer-songwriter feel that is coupled with what feels like a quintessentially 2019-2021 Jack Antonoff production. It's always been my least favourite but I guess I was alone in that.

There's such a slacker/garage band element to this that makes it one of my favourites off the album. Sad to see it go so early.

 

 

39. Indigo De Souza - Pretty Pictures

Some of the songs off Any Shape You Take move closer to bedroom/indie pop, and this is one of those clear examples. The result is a pretty fun song that, while missing the grit of some of the other tracks, has a very nostalgic cinematic feel.

Released as the first single off Sling, this song marked a noticeable departure from the bedroom pop stylings of her first album and prior EPs. The shift meant that we were getting something that focused more inward, rooted in folk. The results were... mixed clearly!

The rate title! Anyway this is easily one of the grittiest, darkest songs off the album. I mean it features a solid section of distorted screams after all.

Definitely one of the most divisive songs in the whole rate.

Solid rock banger albeit a bit of a slower burn track.

This feels like a good example of the overarching style she was aiming for with this album.

"17" might dupe some people who sit down with this record given it's more electronic/bedroom pop focus. But the soft-spoken nature leads you in nicely.

 

 

33. Wolf Alice - Safe from Heartbreak (If You Never Fall In Love)

With its shorter length and layered vocals there's a sing-song vibe to this song that always felt very cutesy, if melancholy. 

Wolf Alice join the fray! They did pretty well though
