Clairo opens up Sling with what feels like a score to the melancholic vintage-filter world that the album exists within. Spacey elements rooted in the peak of '70s singer-songwriter legacies carries this delicate track.

Honestly surprised this is so low? Rooted in '90s - '00s style ballads, this has always felt like a low-key highlight off the album to me. The dark but dreamy production lends itself to the contemplative lyrics.

This was good! The highlights off this album were the ones that embrace the indie rock. PSA for any random indie rock/folk girls browsing this, we want more of THESE and less moody sad girl folk songs that are interchangeable. Julia Jacklin LISTEN UP!

 

46. Snail Mail - Forever (Sailing)

Score: 6.55

There's a few quirks to the production to this one that make it stand out nicely. What you'll notice among these albums is a lot of them (Clairo not counting) were heavily inspired by indie musicians from the '90s. Those elements come through in various ways but it's pretty explicit here.

Coming after the two big bop singles, Headlock still manages to maintain the hype but also foreshadows what's to come. It's a bit more of your typical indie rock/folksy track but manages to do it quite well imo.
