Nothing New is also just plain one of her best songs ever - it hasn’t stopped growing on me since release and it’s in my head constantly. Sweet Nothing reminds me of it a bit, actually - and grew on me a lot from first listen, too.

Obviously they don’t sound anything alike but I think it has to do with the narrative in each being very reminiscent and melancholy. Also how the choruses start similarly with “I knew you / I chose/lost you”

Holiest Dreams Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 I still can’t believe Midnight Rain is the most popular album track by a wide margin. I know it could always change given that the initial favorite can fall behind later (IDSB being a great example) and others can later rise up (DBM being a great example). However, I definitely wouldn’t have guessed it on first listen or even second or third listen. It’s one of my favorites on the album though.
