Kevin Parker Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 These are arguably the most relevant rock bands from the 21st century. What's your favorite? And what's the worst, in your opinion? Band (Biggest album, year of release) Arcade Fire (The Suburbs, 2010) Arctic Monkeys (AM, 2013) Bring Me the Horizon (Semptiternal, 2013) Cage the Elephant (Melophobia, 2013) Fall Out Boy (Infinity On High, 2007) Florence + The Machine (Lungs, 2009) Greta Van Fleet (Anthem of the Peaceful Army, 2018) Imagine Dragons (Night Visions, 2012) Kings of Leon (Only By the Night, 2008) MGMT (Oracular Spectacular, 2007) Maroon 5 (Songs About Jane, 2002) My Chemical Romance (The Black Parade, 2006) Panic! Kevin Parker Posted August 26, 2022 Author Posted August 26, 2022 My personal Top 10 Tame Impala The Strokes The Black Keys Arctic Monkeys Cage the Elephant The 1975 Kings of Leon MGMT Florence + The Machine Twenty One Pilots
PoisonCandy Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Ghost are my personal favourite. I love that they can draw from so many different sounds and inspirations, yet still sound like nothing else in music right now. But out of the options that you've given, I'd say Paramore. They're my third favourite band overall. I love bands that aren't afraid to drastically switch it up, and they've done that several times. They have a song for every mood and occasion, whether you're after a fast paced pop-punk banger, an acoustic ballad, some dance-pop, or just a straightforward rock track, they've got it all. Versatility is also important to me in an artist because I tend to get bored quickly if their discography is very samey, which fortunately isn't the case with Paramore. Maroon 5 are probably the worst. I'm not sure if I'd even call them a band at this point, let alone rock. They're basically the male Pussycat Dolls where it was Nicole and her background dancers, except with Maroon 5 it's Adam and his background band who are, at this point, kind of pointless. They had some good stuff in the early-mid 2000's, but that's about it.
Polgg48 Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 from list best: Arcade Fire worst: Greta Van Fleet personal fav: MCR

potent Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Best: The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys (also love Florence but wouldn't really call it rock) Worst: Maroon 5 lol (but since everyone already said that, probably Panic!)
PennywiseTheClown Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Best: my faves Greta Van Fleet of course Worst: Imagine Dragons (It's NOT rock)
Reflektor_Creep Posted August 27, 2022 Posted August 27, 2022 BEST: Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys Muse Florence+The Machine Tame Impala The Strokes The 1975 The Killers Twenty One Pilots Vampire Weekend WORST: Maroon 5 Imagine Dragons Fall Out Boy Coldplay
gustavothehuman Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 (edited) You made a list of most relevant bands of the 21st century and didn't include Coldplay who outsold, outgrossed and outawarded everyone on it? Anyway... Best: Coldplay, Florence + The Machine and Paramore. Worst: Maroon 5 and Panic! at the Disco. The rest are either in-between or I'm not familiar enough with the discography to have a proper opinion. Edited August 28, 2022 by gustavothehuman

andresg770 Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 Best for me is The Killers. Worst are Maroon 5 and Panic! The declines 49 minutes ago, Kevin Parker said: Oh wow, I legit thought they debuted in 1999 I'm sorry They technically did -- released a couple of EPs in 1998 and 1999, plus a single from the first EP in 1999. But their first proper album came out in 2000.

Aguilegend Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 If you include Coldplay, they’re the biggest. Quality-wise is tricky because they have very high highs, but also uninspired material. Florence and The Killers are the best, though. Worst are Imagine Dragons, even Maroon 5 has some listenable bops.
Аshanti Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 MGMT is the best band ever so that's not fair Interpol is the best one. Not the most consistent, true, but the best (imo) Imagine Dragons ain't rock but is a band and easily the worst one to ever exist so them. + Asking Alexandria, Tokio Hotel, Twenty One Pilots etc etc
The7thStranger Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 Vampire Weekend is definitely at the top here. Fleet Foxes should be here too.

Mr. Loco Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 I can't with all the hate for Maroon 5 & Imagine Dragons... the lack of taste
Alldeezy Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 Best Bands: Drag Me Out Bring Me The Horizon Asking Alexandria Northlane Architects Red Hot Chili Peppers Foo Fighters The Amity Affliction Sleeping With Sirens Worst: Evanescence. (I just don't like Amy's voice) Imagine Dragons (there first album was AMAZING, then the rest were horrible) Falling In Reverse (I used to love them but I just can't)
Ger Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 Still haven't heart some of them yet, but best for me is Paramore for sure.
