Anybody can join at any point in the game! There’s no eliminations and players are free to take part whenever they are available, and miss rounds if they are unavailable. 
 

The overall ranking at the end of the game will work with averages, so any rounds that players miss they will receive a 0 for. But first and foremost the game is supposed to be about embracing creativity and growing your writing, and of course having fun; scores and all of that is a side thing that you can put as much or as little care into at your prerogative.

Animal concepts are so versatile if you think about it, and with the additional angle for cryptids and mythological animals, I think there's a lot of angles you can go with and I'm excited to see what y'all produce this round!  Looking back on it, I've actually written quite a few animal songs for ATRL songwriting competitions  (Dashing Penguin and Cephalopods) 

 

If anyone's looking for a bit of inspo, here's a song I wrote in the past that could fit the challenge, it tackles a mythological/straight take fusion of the challenge called Pegasus Marine (Drawing an analogy between a pegasus and flying fish)

 

 

[VERSE 1]
Where the waves catch the light
Is where fantasy starts
But you never believe in things your eyes fail to see

Like a view of the world
From a kid diving to the pool floor
Squeezing his eyes tight, scared of the sting of the chlorine

[PRECHORUS]
But if he raised his head up
Wouldn’t that pool’s surface
Be a baby blue sky, marbled with glittering light?

[CHORUS]
The light that glares off the cement,
That bright mirage at the highway’s end;
Let’s chase that wave one skyline ahead

White clouds from boats of fishermen;
A legendary ocean’s waiting there,
Just past the horizon

[VERSE 2]
Think I figured it out
A riddle pulled from the deep:
When the waters are still, are they a mirror or window?

If the angle is wrong,
You can only see your reflection
And you’ll start to ignore the reefs that line the world below
