Ok I guess a question

My Ideas all just mention an animal/what that animal is known for

they aren’t “about” an animal tho. Should is scrap it all since I’m doing doing the prompt incorrectly or is that fine?

edit: I reread the post for this round and I’m sure it’s fine after reading but feel free to quote me if it’s not lol

Time for a little #MondayMotivation (this isn't an officially planned segment, but we'll see how we feel about keeping this up!)

With over 3 days left on the countdown clock for Round 1, you all still have plenty of time to start and/or finish up those submissions.

We're looking forward to seeing some fantastic entries inspired by Zoology. Here is the challenge prompt to refresh your memory.

For some additional #MondayMotivation and potential inspiration, I'd like to share some songs I've written that would fit this round.

In fact, it turns out I've written at least one song inspired by an animal or other (crypto)zoological inspiration per project/album:

"The Wanderer" (2014)

Album: Platinum Heart | Tournament: Platinum Hit 6 | Score: 7 | Peak: #6 | Zoological Inspiration: Lion

  Reveal hidden contents

first verse
Under the stars I will sleep tonight
But I won’t give up without a fight
Because this land, which I call my home
Gives me the strength to keep going on

first pre-chorus
In this fateful land of desolation
Roaming alone with no destination
Abandoned my pride, tried to find myself along the way

first chorus
I am alone, but I’m not afraid
Wandering free with the moonlight’s aid
Never again will I be held back
Out here I know I’m on the right track
I am alive, and I feel it now
Even the darkness won’t bring me down
Never again will I be held back
Out here I know I’m on the right track
Out here I know I’m on the right track

second verse
But then one night something caught my eye
Another creature under the same sky
A slumber broken by the sound of breath
Face painted with fear and the thought of death

second pre-chorus
What should I do in this situation?
Do I fight or flee this confrontation?
Discovered my pride, and I found myself along the way

second chorus
I’m not alone, but I’m not afraid
Wandering free with the moonlight’s aid
Never again will I be held back
Out here I know I’m on the right track
We are alive, and I feel it now
Even the darkness won’t bring us down
Never again will we be held back
Out here I know we’re on the right track
Out here I know we’re on the right track

bridge
Though this may seem an unlikely end
That lonely night I had found a friend
Every night we will roar and sing
Under the moon to the mandolin
Under the moon to the mandolin

third chorus
We’re not alone, and we’re not afraid
Wandering free with the moonlight’s aid
Never again will we be held back
Out here we know we’re on the right track
We are alive, and we feel it now
Even the darkness won’t bring us down
Never again will we be held back
Out here we know we’re on the right track
Out here we know we’re on the right track

outro
Every night we will roar and sing
Under the moon to the mandolin
Staring right up at the star-crossed sky
Just the wandering gypsy and I

"Little Birds" (2015)

Album: Silhouettes | Tournament: Platinum Hit 7 | Score: 8.9 | Peak: #1 | Zoological Inspiration: Bird

  Reveal hidden contents

verse
I’ve lain dormant for too long
Like a bird without a song
Or a storm that’s come and gone
Without a single casualty
Time for my voice to be heard
You just watch this little bird
No more flying from the words
That long to finally be free

chorus
The earth shifts, I awaken
With each volcanic breath that I’m taking
Falling ash, all around, pulse is racing
As the lava keeps flowing and chasing
The earth stops, empty silence
But the wounds that consume you are violent
Should have known, you were too blind to see this
Little birds rise from ash like a phoenix

"Deer" (2017)

Album: Diamond Mountain | Tournament: Diamond Hit (Platinum Hit 10) | Score: 8.833 | Peak: #2 | Zoological Inspiration: Deer

  Reveal hidden contents

first verse
It always feels like nighttime here
A constant undercover fear
Beneath these trees, no light appears
Without a clearing, so unclear;
On where to travel, roam or steer
But something tells me hope is near
I’ll chase the river, play by ear
Follow my nose for one more year

first pre-chorus
I hear a twig crack
I’m no longer on my own
I try to run back
But it’s like I’m set in stone

chorus (a)
My heart is racing now
And you’re the only reason
Can’t help but smell the danger
In this misty open season
I dart for an escape
Any place where I may hide
Can’t let you get too close to me
Won’t let you get inside

refrain
His arrow pulled tight
I realise this might
Be my last night
But I don’t care
The tension feels so right

second verse
Abandoned thoughts inside my head
These thoughts are better left unsaid
Drink from the stream till I forget
I can’t do something I’ll regret
Dance on the edge of a bayonet
Won’t give into temptation’s threat
Abandoned thoughts inside my head;
If I don’t run; will leave me dead

second pre-chorus
Another twig cracks
My hunter friend’s returned
I’ve headed off track
Through rough terrains unlearned

chorus (a)
My heart is racing now
And you’re the only reason
Can’t help but smell the danger
In this misty open season
I dart for an escape
Any place where I may hide
Can’t let you get too close to me
Won’t let you get inside

refrain
His arrow pulled tight
I realise this might
Be my last night
But I don’t care
The tension feels so right

bridge
Unsure of what I’m running from
The hunter or my demons
Can’t help but like the danger
In this misty open season
I think I spy a clearing
Through this dark forsaken night
I leap towards my freedom
As I’m blinded by the light

chorus (b)
My heart’s no longer beating
And I’m the only reason
I wish I’d chased the danger
In this misty open season
I darted for escape
Any place where I could hide
I never let you close to me
And now this deer has died

outro
Looking back on life
I see the hunter was no threat
He only hunts for love
Why did the thought cause me to fret?
I wish I’d done things differently
Embraced all of the signs
But now I’m just that lost deer
In the headlights

"Loch Ness" (2017)

Album: Mine | Tournament: Platinum Hit 11 | Score: 8.575 | Peak: #1 | Zoological Inspiration: Loch Ness Monster

  Reveal hidden contents

first verse
Drunk on fragrant highland air
With ruins of unanswered prayers
Vain endeavours to repair
These crumbling castle walls
Whispers of your whereabouts
Erode a mind instilled with doubt
Tempted by a life without
The safety of the shore

pre-chorus
But do I dare to dive in deep
Disturbing your eternal sleep
Surrender up my soul to keep
Or keep it to myself?

chorus
If I fall in your oasis
If I fall for your allure
Will you stay forever faceless
Will I search a little more
Just a ripple on the surface
Any sign that you exist
Any sign you’re truly out there
And I’ll gladly take the risk

second verse
Felt I’d found you once before
Refracted rays and wishful thoughts
Silhouettes I watched distort
Beneath the setting sun
Wading through the murky depths
With eager eyes and bated breath
Now my heart has nothing left
And clarity has gone

pre-chorus
But do I dare to dive in deep
Disturbing your eternal sleep
Surrender up my soul to keep
Or keep it to myself?

chorus
If I fall in your oasis
If I fall for your allure
Will you stay forever faceless
Will I search a little more
Just a ripple on the surface
Any sign that you exist
Any sign you’re truly out there
And I’ll gladly take the risk

bridge
The dark of night is setting in
Hope and searchlight growing dim
Drenched and out of focus
Loch abandoned for the shore
A cold enigma far from sight
Leaves my body watertight
Landlocked from emotion
Till another river forms

chorus
If I fall in your oasis
If I fall for your allure
Will you stay forever faceless
Will I search a little more
Just a ripple on the surface
Any sign that you exist
Any sign you’re truly out there
And I’ll gladly take the risk

"Chameleon" (2019)

Album: Scrapbook: Recycled | Tournament: Song of the Season 1 | Score: 6 (est.) | Peak: #15 | Zoological Inspiration: Chameleon

  Reveal hidden contents

first verse
Leaving you is torture, trying to escape your claws
Cutting through the flora from the forest to the shore
Reckless how I run from your wandering, wild eyes
Catapult your tongue laced with love laments and lies

pre-chorus (a)
I don’t know what to do now
Everything reminds me of you somehow
Like you can adapt into my surrounds
Radiating rapture without a sound

chorus (a)
Are you human or chameleon?
Climbing to your height leads to delirium
Try to keep on rising like I'm helium
Falling but I kind of like the feelin’
Are you chameleon or human?
Say my name with every subtle movement
Paint my brain with colorful confusion
Play this game of love for your amusement

second verse (rap-sung)
Feel it in my bloodstream, hotter than a sunbeam
Lightning when I speak, throwing shade like a palm tree
Stacking up blue faces, lavender Mercedes
Need you off my brain, feels like nothing can replace us
Ain’t so silver linin’
Pouring rosé wine on wounds you’ll never find in my mind calms the cryin’
Lighting trees; no arson, warning signs I'm passin’
Going under the horizon, now my blood is cold as ice and…

pre-chorus (a)
I don’t know what to do now
Everything reminds me of you somehow
Like you can adapt into my surrounds
Radiating rapture without a sound

chorus (a)
Are you human or chameleon?
Climbing to your height leads to delirium
Try to keep on rising like I'm helium
Falling but I kind of like the feelin’
Are you chameleon or human?
Say my name with every subtle movement
Paint my brain with colorful confusion
Play this game of love for your amusement

bridge
Caught in your kaleidoscope, trippin’ on your tales
Holding onto frail hope, shifting like your scales
Blinded by your need to boast, saw your true intentions
Left to drown but learned to float, far from your reflection

pre-chorus (b)
So I know what to do now
Everything reminds you of me somehow
Like I can adapt into your surrounds
Radiating rapture without a sound

chorus (b)
Am I human or chameleon?
Climbing to my height leads to delirium
Try to keep on rising like you’re helium
Falling but you kind of like the feelin’
Am I chameleon or human?
Say your name with every subtle movement
Paint your brain with colorful confusion
Play this game of love for my amusement

"“Satan, Not Today!”" (2021)

Album: Aurenaissance | Tournament: Song of the Season 4 | Score: 7 (est.) | Peak: #7 | Zoological Inspiration: Phoenix

  Reveal hidden contents

first verse
Not yesterday my soul was almost taken
A wreckage on the road to hell forsaken
I didn’t hope this life would change
Or wish I’d closed both eyes and prayed
I took control, became my own salvation

first pre-chorus
At the river Styx of life and death
My lips resist their final breath
As visions glint inside a reckless mind

first chorus
I might have lived a life that didn’t last
Enlightening the plights within my past
The best decisions rest on splintered glass
Like runes of truth protruding from the path
Fair-weather friends in flames will flock away
While feathered friends warn, “Satan, not today!”

second verse
Not yesteryear my power almost shattered
An ember burning out to cinders scattered
I knew those chapters had to close
Then through the ashes I arose
I played with matches, chose what really mattered

second pre-chorus
At the devil’s fork of dirt and danger
Never saw the third path’s wager
Went to war with worthless waves of words

second chorus
I can’t have flown this far to slowly fall
Embarked toward the starlight’s warmth to stall
I wish I’d known the risk of growing tall
Like vines of ivy winding up the walls
But barricades ablaze won’t block the way
With flare declare it, “Satan, not today!”

bridge
If I could find the last me from a past life
I’d gaze for constellations after twilight
Retracing every shape of each mistake
An astrographic map to navigate
If nights ignite the restless in the next life
Throughout another galaxy or timeline
I’ll burn to let them learn I’m not afraid
My supernova showmanship displayed

third chorus
I might have lived a life that didn’t last
I can’t have flown this far to slowly fall
Enlightening the plights within my past
Embarked toward the starlight’s warmth to stall
The best decisions rest on splintered glass
I wish I’d known the risk of growing tall
Like runes of truth protruding from the path
Like vines of ivy winding up the walls
Fair-weather friends in flames will flock away
While feathered friends warn, “Satan, not today!”
But barricades ablaze won’t block the way
With flare declare it, “Satan, not today!”

outro
At the interchange of dawn and daybreak
Winter’s rays befall my namesake
In the phase of morning I’m reborn
In the face of mourning I’m reborn

Some of these songs performed reasonably well, while others did not (looking at you, "Chameleon" :cupid:) so don't take this as any kind of indicator of what I/the others are looking for, just sharing art for the sake of sharing, and if it helps anyone, that's great too! :cm: Perhaps our other judges @8thPrince@fountain@Jackson wouldn't mind sharing some of their own works also?

Good luck with the challenge, looking forward to seeing some amazing submissions! :duca:

I think that sounds fine, as long as we can tell that your song has the inspiration of an animal behind it then that’s great. :bird:

Some might say I even invented the very concept of the animal, I fear. :jonny2: (Jk, we all know that honour belongs to Miss. Ke$ha!)

This reminded me that I was looking into my discography and seeing what animal-themed songs I had. Just the ones from songwriting game seasons:

June Bugs (PH Season 10, as a judge - fireflies)

Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring (SOTS 3 - deer)

big & small (SOTS 4, as a judge - dogs)

Hug (GH1 - butterfly)

you could reach a bit and say Werewolf/Moon (SOTS 3) counts for wolf, but werewolves are notably different. ? So I'm not completely unfamiliar with writing about animals but I rarely make them a main motif.

Ugh, "June Bugs" is still a quintessential Hugamarian classique. It's a shame it wasn't a submitted song, since I think it would have scalped tbh. Can we expect a sequel this season, perhaps?

Sounds fine to me! As long as you've been inspired by an animal(s), and that translates with the lyrics of your song, you can really go in any direction you wish.

The modesty, I'm sure it's fine! Heck, I even shared the sixth song I ever wrote, and while it's no masterpiece (and is kind of the oddball in my album and was left off the tour setlist for that very reason :eli:) I've come to appreciate it in its own way.

There were too many replies to catch up on and quote or reply to, but we're swiftly approaching the 48 hour mark! If you're still struggling to find inspiration, perhaps try visiting this Random Animal Generator website for some unexpected inspiration. You never know what might pique your interest! :matty:

Julia’s behind the song:

spacer.png

“Well… the first song you are gonna see here from me on this new season of Golden Hit is called “Crying Birds”. I wrote it because one day I was smoking weed while being sit at the grass of a very lonely park here in my city with a friend and her girlfriend talking high **** while also drinking a ******* beer and starting to get a little bit drunk. Well the thing is that we started to hear the birds “singing”. I put emphasizes on singing because that’s how we see it because while I was high I said “what if they aren’t singing and they are just screaming for help”. A silence came to us, like an aura of reflection and deep intense thoughts. It was a very cathartic experience. Also it was very curious because that day was a very sunny day but just when I said that reflection the clouds started to appear and the birds started to “sing” more louder.
We all associate birds with freedom, because that can fly and things like that but that’s what we suppose how they feel. Like what if they aren’t singing, they are crying, what if they aren’t free and they have invasive thoughts about their lives, what if they don’t fly because they are free but because they want to escape through some bad **** happening to them? We put the birds like they are like a depression free specie but we don’t know if they are as decadent as us. So I came with the idea of it and wrote this song by that perspective. I hope you enjoy this because i put a lot of soul and thought in this and also has helped me a lot to heal a lot of things that I didn’t realized I haven’t heal because I just ignored it.
It’s a song about loss, confusion, emptiness, reflection, heartbreak, hopelessness and the process about the end of something that means the beginning and I think every of that feelings are very well encapsulated on this song so I hope you all like it”.

Body Make-Up Explained:

I was really horrified with the response Amber Heard got from that trail. It doesn't make any sense to me. Yes she had a part in it but not everything was a lie.

The whole world vilified a woman because she shared her truth about abuse.

The whole story is where I got my inspiration from, so it is only loosely based on Amber Heard.
