Julia Fox Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 On a day like this but 9 years ago, Lady Gaga's long awaited lead single from her high hyped third album “ARTPOP” was leaked a week in advance before it’s original release, making Gaga's team rush the release to the next day (August 12). “Applause” received acclaim by critics and also reached top 10 in over 22 countries around the world including the US where it peaked at #4 on its debut week. Do you remember when “Applause” was announced? When it was leaked? The meltdowns? The never ending battle with Katy's “Roar”? the memes? the performances? The music video release? Where were you when all of this cultural reset happened 9 years ago?
Nico Robin Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 Her best lead single from her best album did that
MexicanLiLMonster Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 So iconic!! Her best single artwork, up there with Born This Way (single).. I remember loving this song and the music video so much… was also fun seeing it stay in the Top 10 week after week, had great longevity!! Also for me this song has aged so well, still sounds so fresh and catchy!
DoctorIce Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 Slapplause has always been a huge bop. 1 hour ago, Julia Fox said: This is a serve.
Bencharmer Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 I hope ATRL will make a special event next year for the 10th BDay of Applause, ARTPOP, Applause vs Roar, Miley at VMA, Work *****, Ariana's debut... That was such a time for pop music

EdgeofTeeth Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 I'll never forget hearing that euphoric chorus explode for the first time
Kevin Parker Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 When it was announced, I was on the computer with my sister, we both teared up lol! Then when Applause came out I was at school, I listened to it w my friends and I wasn’t really sure about it at first. so iconic
Mikeymoonshine Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 Probably her best lead. In fact it's interesting that this and PI were probably her most controversial leads and in the end I think they are her best two. They deserved better.
Ger Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 (edited) I remember when it was released, that day I was very busy with college, and I had to go to the pharmacy after. The song was playing on the radio, and I remember thinking HOLY SH*T, nah this b*tch really did that, even if I don't like her too much, she's ruling pop music this year for sure, she's coming hard with this one, it felt such an energetic and fresh pop song. I was wrong about its commercial performance, although it still pulled great numbers, but I still love it to this day, such a fantastic song. Probably her best lead imo. Patient Zero Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 I was such a huge Gaga stan back in the day, but I never liked this song. I think I started to lose my interest in her after this song...and I still can't explain why. I still like her, but mainly because of The Fame and BTW.
monster_enriquer Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 A PERFECT LEAD SINGLE STILL SOUNDS SO FRESH
tost1 Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 Its a good song, but not up there with her greatest, my lesst favorite lead before Stupid Love came
Protocol Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 Has quietly become one of the best songs in her career IMO. A very ballsy choice for a lead single, who the hell releases an absurd meta track about needing approval from the public as your first single? It joins Gwen's What You Waiting For? as one of the great meta pop songs about being an artist of recent times.
