Jay T Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 (edited) New female rapper “Glorilla” who by far had the song of the summer with “*** N*gga Free” (FNF) played all across the country is currently outdoing both cardi and Megan. Her new single “tomorrow” which was just released a month ago is out streaming “pressurelicious & hot sht”. She’s currently charting two songs on Apple Music & “tomorrow” has been rising day by day on said chart. We seem to be seeing a new IT girl really soon for female rap as the public is seeming to adore the Memphis rapper & kicking the other girls to the curb. Cardi nor Megan are currently charting on Spotify nor Apple Music with their recent singles Edited August 9, 2022 by Jay T
Brysexual Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 You can claim a new rapper as an “IT” girl with no album and two songs. You stretched good before you posted this because it’s a reach. Glorilla is dope tho, she has potential, but until she drops an album and we see her shift or make a dent in hip hop culture, this is null and void.
Royal King Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Who cares all that matters is that Glorilla h@tes nicki so we support her!
mellenthin Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 (edited) She doesn't have very flattering face features, so I can definitely see her becoming the next Cardi! Glad to see Cardi inspiring others in some way Edited August 9, 2022 by mellenthin
mellenthin Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 (edited) Doechii is the actual next rap *****, however! Edited August 9, 2022 by mellenthin
Armani? Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 It's a cute hit in the hood, but I don't know if she'll stick as artist after.
satellites.™ Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Our generation has already decided that Cardi, Meg, and Doja are the only girls we are allowing to sustain. Everyone else can get smashes here and there, but they're not going to stick around.

She follows Nicki, liked her four recent posts and said she loves Nicki in a comment section just last week. Plenty of rappers hated on Nicki in 2018 and switched up
Bey_Rihstan Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 The current IT Rap Girl is Latto but Glo' has the potential to be HUGE given the fact that she has women and men currently interested in her style of rap. That new song she previewed went viral too. Just wait til she gets some investment from her label
liquiddiamonds Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Glorilla feels a bit too novelty but she can grow from now. Latto had a huge hit, but it feels quite anonymous, nothing else has stuck and it’s very radio-driven. I think 2022 is still Dojamination, Pt. II. Cardi’s song and Nicki’s two singles for the year didn’t stick so far. Megan had no big crossover hit, but she’s been charting enough songs to give a nice initial boost to her new album. She needs to hope something else from the album takes off in urban post-release. Doechii is clearly the one to watch, but the remix for Persuasive took way too long to arrive and I don’t think SZA really fit the mood of the song with her verse. They should’ve dropped before summertime when the song was trending among black users in tiktok. The OG >>>> Flo Milli just dropped but the reception was kinda mute compared to her last project. Tate is kinda DOA… Both Doechii and Bree Runway are a feature way of blowing up. I’d give the edge to Doechii because she’s on TDE.

Agreed re: Doechii’s potential but I wouldn’t include Bree in any conversation about female rap tbh. She’s kinda never really positioned herself in that way and her last 2 solo singles are representative of that.

If TDE handles Doechii like they're doing SZA then... good luck to that lady.
Miracle Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 I love her cause she's so natural and she's a great rapper, she doesn't need a 500k dollars production to serve a BOP but...I feel like the future of female rap will be what Azealia Banks serves: rap over house beats, especially with the release of Renaissance and who knows how many songs sampling 90s piano house hits

I generally agree though, the top 3 (in terms of sustained commercial success) have been determined. Doubt anybody going to get bigger than them. Even in Megan’s sophomore struggle, doubt most other female rappers will even see a fraction of her success. Love Latto, but even “Big Energy” seems like a one-off. The female rap renaissance is over I fear.

Trap is getting kinda played.
