abeille Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 (edited) The last album by a black female artist to go top 3 was Sade's 'Soldier of Love' in 2009. Edited August 8, 2022 by abeille

They're notoriously unreceptive to international artists. Even Adele's 30 peaked at #2.
Aramis Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 One of her weakest markets but I'm happy she's reaching a new peak 25 years later

Although, she deserved a #1 album in Italy.
Hurem Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 The way I knew it didn't go #1 just by that title #2 is good though, not everybody can have a #1 album in Italy

I can only think of Ariana (x2), Gaga (x2), Adele (x2) and Billie on top of my head. Italian charts are dominated by italian rap and indie and latin music, especially male artists, pop girls don't have an easy way in.
Pepo Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Italy is a hard market for international singers to break in, so this is a fantastic achievement
Comedor Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Not her peaking 25 years into her career. Absolute legend.
Scars Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 OP mentioned Italy is clearly a hard market for black female artists to break in, but some members still felt the need to brag about their white faves hitting the number #1.
