MikeyDuff1D Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Why is this horror anthology series by Mike Flanagan not an awards show darling like the similar horror antholgy series American Horror Story from Ryan Murphy? All three of these shows are well received by critics and fans alike. I personally think all three are great and the performances by most of the actors are excellent. They are deserving of at least some nominations imo.
zaso Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 probably cuz bias against horror media still exists it's still weird tho cuz most of his shows are just soapy dramas with pretentious dialogue, there's not even enough horror elements and award shows usually love that kind of stuff midnight mass was horrible tho, one boring monologue after another and it dragged on for too long
Gossip_Boy Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 The horror genre is largely ignored when it comes to award shows in general (both tv shows and movies). His last non-Horror show, Hot in Cleveland, did get Emmy noms.
Sharapov Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 MIDNIGHT MASS was disliked by everyone and flopped.
Heartbreak Prince Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 The Haunting of Hill House was absolutely stunning and stuck with me for so long after I finished it, definitely deserved a few nominations and even wins.
Littlejfrey Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Bly Manor was a mess, but Hill House and Midnight Mass were beautiful

Kings. Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Y’all bringing up bias when there is none as far as the EMMY’S are concerned. Ryan Murphy’s works (most of which are horror) have some of the highest odds of winning at the Emmy’s, so this argument is null and void. - I have no clue why, but it’s truly a crime.
scenekiller Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Because none of his stuff is actually good. It’s corny and watered down horror.
Miles. Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 I don’t know but it’s a crime that the phenomenal Hill House and Midnight Mass were ignored, yet the atrocious later seasons of AHS still received plenty of noms. Samantha Sloyan and Hamish Linklater especially were unbelievable. And both shows deserved writing and directing noms. The Emmys just like to nominate the same shows 5 times in each category (GOT, Succession, Ozark, Ted Lasso, Handmaid’s Tale, This Is Us). It’s so boring.
slik Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 Awards ignore horror which is insane because horror is the most flexible genre IMO
Hephaestus Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 While it's true that the horror genre is generally ignored by awards, Flanagan's shows are not that good or groundbreaking enough and this comes from someone who has enjoyed them. But the same applies to Murphy's shows to be completely honest, maybe he just has some connections.
