If im reading the info in this thread right, she was credited as a performer, not producer or writer so there is no check she gets cut, it’s more of an acknowledgment.

So, I doubt people are buying acknowledgments and not something more substantial. Not to say that it never happens tho.

Oh that makes sense. You’re right I doubt she would get a cut just from “acknowledgments” but I do believe people buy their ways into writing credit — but that’s a whole another topic

People don't hear the difference because it was just Beyonce singing "la la la la la la la la" for 5 seconds in the background at some point in the song, which is why it is ridiculous for Kelis to make a big deal out of it.

That annoying one hit wonder milkshake chick got her cute 5 minutes of fame thanks to generous Queen B. Now back to business, Renaissance and Bey will continue to dominate. :alexz2:

Why do you keep downplaying Milkshake, it was a huge hit song, it’s not some obscure indie album track :rip:

What a rubbish statement.

Like as if Milkshake can only be either an anon track in an obscure album or else a huge hit — it was neither.

LMAO at the contortions that needed to be weaved in feeble attempt to validate this desperate ass tantrum.

You are a pathetic Johnny Depp troll and you can kindly stay off my quote button

Milkshake literally went #3 on the Hot 100 :rip:

What is this random need to downplay Kelis' achievements :rip:

Her only Top 5 single in her career. Congrats? But she was wrong for trying to diminsih another female artist over a man's actions. And it's still up for heavy debate what she actually contributed to her biggest hit. Her reputation is in the toilet after this.

Thank you!!

Not to me. I don’t hear any difference. :michael:

Here it is side by side to notice the diff, it is barely noticeable.

It's also used only towards the end of the song which is another reason why we barely notice it gone.

Thank you Kelis for birthing that remix

Thats what you get when you dont respect the artist. She should have reach out to Kelis

I’d be mad too if the biggest star in the world sampled my song and I didn’t know but that’s not Beyonce’s fault.  Just seems like Kelis’s team/former songwriters dropped the ball and didn’t communicate well enough with Kelis.

Bey is not in anyway the biggest pop star :rip:

It's pretty clear you have no understanding of how sampling works if you expect the artist to reach out to people at all, let alone people who do not own the track in any way. :skull:

I wouldn't bother with this member. They seem to have an opinion they don't want to change despite acting like a clown.

It's a remembered classic, always quoted with an iconic intro. Stop.

I wish Beyoncé stans would cut Kelis some slack here. Like she said this isn't really about Beyoncé. Kelis has a history of being taken advantage of in this industry (whether she is at fault of that or not doesn't matter, it's still gross), maybe that's why she's a bit over-sensitive about stuff like this. If anyone's interested this interview with The Guardian was very interesting: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2020/jan/30/unmasked-singer-kelis-on-music-men-and-her-missing-money

Quote

Kelis has always been interested in music and she is, she says, especially proud of her first album: proud of “the femaleness of the album, of the freaking outspokenness of it, the blackness of it, the alternativeness of it”. But returning to Kaleidoscope has brought back as many bitter memories as sweet ones. Kelis made it with her then close friend Pharrell and Chad Hugo, AKA the Neptunes, after meeting them through a mutual friend at performing arts school. She was 19 at the time. “I thought it was a beautiful and pure, creative safe space,” she says. “But it ended up not being that at all.”

“I was told we were going to split the whole thing 33/33/33, which we didn’t do,” she says. Instead, she says, she was “blatantly lied to and tricked”, pointing specifically to “the Neptunes and their management and their lawyers and all that stuff”. As a result, she says she made nothing from sales of her first two albums, which were produced by the Neptunes. But she did not notice for a few years, because she was making money from touring, “and just the fact that I wasn’t poor felt like enough”, she says. She sighs: “Their argument is: ‘Well, you signed it.’ I’m like: ‘Yeah, I signed what I was told, and I was too young and too stupid to double-check it.’”

(Pharrell and Hugo did not respond to repeated requests for comment.)

Stans probably would've cut her some slack had she not then gone after Beyoncé's character, stating she slept with producers for hits and worships the devil. :gaycat: But she didn't, so she can suck it.

Yeah that's fair. But the harassment actually begun before either of those heinous statements came into existence

But ... what is "that" even :deadbanana2: Bey got virtually no backlash and gave no fucks nnn

Idc what anyone says Bey knew what she was doing when she originally added the LALAs. Even though they were only used in the last 5min they added another layer to the song. Sucks that they had to be removed.

If you barley noticed them before their removal will likely not make a difference

Wait which LaLa’s? I thought it was just the drums that was taken out? The Ooh lalala is a whole other sample.

There was a 'lala lalala lala' background vocal at around 1:40. It was also sampled from the Kelis song with the drums. They were pretty dope. You can probably still hear them if you have the album's leaked version or if you bought the physical. I'm so mad Bey took them out, Kelis will pay for this I'm serious.

I’m listening to a podcast and they don’t believe Energy had any elements of Milkshake. Now I kinda agree!

Unless those vocals were Kelis’s, LaLas are fairly common within all songs. If anything the drums sound a bit like Milk. I’m still kinda fuming at Bey for removing.
