too long. It's been a minute. I've missed multiple black women being all over top40 radio and the singles charts like it in the 90s and 00s. The past 2 or 3 years has seen somewhat of a resurgence low-key thanks to Lizzo.

And Doja. She was all over the radio and social media.

Lizzo opened the floodgates back up for her in 2019 when she was the first new black female artist to hit the top 10 (and #1) with solo lead singles in ages. Before Truth Hurts and Good As Hell, emerging black female talent had been relegated to feature status to try to get into the top 10 for almost all of the 10s. If you were black, female and debuted after 2010 it would be a struggle to even see the top40, let alone the top 10 or #1, even if your single was selling or doing very well elsewhere. Most of the 10s almost seemed like a fever dream to me, a black woman, who grew up ingratiated in 90s and 00s popular music where hearing girls all over the radio that looked like me was a common occurence. I'm glad the tide has been turning.

We need Mrs Kate to score her deserved #1 hit next. It would be a pleasant moment to be alive. :alexz2:

Steve Lacy is coming hard. He  will leapfrog Kate

I love this post, since you perfectly highlighted how common it was for black female artists pre-2010's era to at least get a top 40 hit. I've been watching the charts for some years now, as it was looking like black women had to be an guest act to get a hit for a period.. not even SZA was able to get a proper top 10 hit without being a featured artist (despite the hype and praise she received). Lizzo truly broke the gates open and I'm very proud of her. It'll be great to see Beyoncé get her next #1 after Lizzo, I think it's been since 2020 when Say So (Remix) and Savage (Remix) went #1 that two black female artists had back to back #1's? :dancehall:

Not even then. Savage went #1 like 2 weeks after SSR. I remember it was right after Stuck With You. I think it'll be the first time since 2004 (when Alicia Keys unseated Ciara from #1) that black women had 2 back to back #1s.

Ok, we get it. I don't need to be constantly reminded that it doesn't have a chance.

Omg :doc: thank you for informing me, wow.. that's even worst than I've thought. I really wished it would've went #1 right after Say So.. but, perhaps this time history will be made again?

Are we sure about BMS going #1? I saw the HDD numbers, and they're good, but I was expecting it to gain 10M, it gained around 8.1M.

This is their latest prediction (it doesn’t take Pandora streams into account). They said they’ll post more accurate predictions tmrw, but it’s looking very promising

Oh ok, hopefully it's true, going to wait for the other accounts. Since this is a Dua stan, and those stans believe she's already an MPG, I would look at them carefully.

It's honestly very shocking to me that "Big Energy" could end up in Top 10 for the Year-End chart. Also "Shivers" at #4 right now feels so ??? Such a strange year.
