Simple Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Absolute TRL was founded in 1999, as a fan site of MTV's TV Show Total Request Live. In 2005, the main site was closed in favor of the forum. It got renamed to PopFusion in 2006, and retained that name for a year. In 2007 it was renamed to ATRL. Despite the cancelation of Total Request Live in late 2008, it continued operating as a general pop culture forum. In 2017, ATRL gained media attention when a member of the forum discovered hidden artwork, and incomplete tracklist of Taylor Swift's then-upcoming sixth studio album, Reputation (2017), ahead of the official announcement on her website.[2][3][4][5] In a BuzzFeed article on pop fandom culture, ATRL is described as a "space for fans to argue in favor of their chosen artist with statistics and ideas about cultural impact".[1] ATRL - Wikipedia Interesting ATRL's most iconic moment is Taylor-related
ontherocks Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 No,it was brought up over the years a few times, so...
GentleEarthquake Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 no, I saw it before i joined and I knew it would be a mess after reading the first sentence
Katamari Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 In 2017, ATRL gained media attention when a member of the forum discovered hidden artwork, and incomplete tracklist of Taylor Swift's then-upcoming sixth studio album, Reputation (2017), oh wow

Vespertine Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 No, I’m not surprised. I am surprised that the article just mentions Reputation though ATRL definitely peaked in relevance 2011 - 2014 or so. Our memes, gifs, nicknames etc. used to spread to Twitter and Buzzfeed like wildfire. Even tumblr when tumblr was a thing. And ATRL would get cited in pop music articles fairly frequently. We know for a fact some of the pop girls and their teams used to lurk. The Kworb screenshots! Perez was on here and that guy from Billboard too Does anyone remember the night Liddos were like 99% sure Gaga was lurking base? She was tweeting random (non Gaga) videos minutes after they were posted in base, several times in a row And of course she iconically tweeted @ Nicole. It’s a shame this site has not functioned at 100% in TEN years at this point. It could be so much more iconic and relevant still

Konril Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Fergie's Manager threatening ATRL Bill Werde from Billboard actually posting here. ATRL investigates fradulent Lucia Cole Those should be mentioned too.

And there was that Rihanna thing where we weren't sure if that poster was Rihanna, because they said things only Rih would know. But even back then Atrl had server issues. Forums just aren't a thing anymore, they've been replaced by Reddit and Discord.
ZIVERT Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 ATRL's impact on the social media side of stan culture was huge in 2011-2014. A lot of the stan lingo that is popularized on Twitter started off here. And omg, what a day to be on ATRL when that user discovered reputation. Taylor had to rush release the album cover and everything because of it

I did not know ATRL was actually an acronym
PrettyHurts Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 (edited) Still alive after 23 years longevity I was a member of another pop forum 2011-2014 but made the switch bc everyone always talked about ATRL. Main pop forum Edited July 31, 2022 by PrettyHurts

It would still be just as iconic regardless of Reddit and Discord if people hadn't given up on browsing or joining the site years ago imo. I still see people on all the stan reddits referencing ATRL.
