I casually like several of the women in the poll but Alanis is the only one where I am familiar with at least 90% of her discography. She's one of my favorite artists period.

All of these ladies hold important places in Canadian Music, but I went with the ones I grew up actually hearing on the radio in ?? and occasionally in videos on the Family Channel (our former equivalent of the Disney Channel with some Canadian shows thrown into the mix): Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne, Nelly Furtado (actually related to one of my friends), Sarah McLachlan, Deborah Cox, Fefe Dobson, Feist, and Melanie Fiona.

 

In terms of other acts that I heard really often, I would add: Keisha Chanté, K.d. Lang (in the dentist's office, lol), Jully Black, Eva Avila, Victoria Duffield, Kreesha Turner, Bulöw, Ruth B, Shiloh.
