Very happy with the results. The hate campaign didn't really work. This film wasn't rejected in the likes of The Flash ($268m) and Indy 5 ($356m); and it didn't underperform as badly as MI:7 ($448m vs $291m budget). Shows how bad it really could've been.

 

I also don't want to hear "it should've grossed $1b" because the original even made way less ($211m) than all the other film's OGs in comparison as well. Only so many people are interested in a mermaid film. I doubt it would've made much more with a white lead. Halle proved herself, and the doubters wrong.

With a $565M WW box office score it paid off the budget. The ancillaries will pay off the marketing and probably turn a small profit in the end.
