Imogene Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 56% drop from a movie that undeperformed 1st week, and flopped overseas is still bad. That movie was just ok. It's beyond time to let go of live action remakes. 3 9

TLM wont go far away $600M WW though and wont break-even with Box Office alone. That's a fact. Edited June 3, 2023 by Aristotle

BNF91 Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 Please this is the post Memorial Day weekend where audiences really start the shift towards the weekdays and it's clear from the Friday bumps by all films. A 56% drop 2nd weekend is great, especially as it is matching Aladdin's raw number too. No reason why it shouldn't replicate at least some of the legs that Aladdin saw for the summer. 1
ToraeGilt Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 Call me optimistic but I feel like this movie will have legs. It’s undoubtedly one of if not Disney’s best live action remake. Im planning to see it again

I love Halle and her amazing vocals but I will also be watching for my Prince Eric Jonah Hauer-King 1
CosTaSsSs Posted June 4, 2023 Posted June 4, 2023 Gonna watch this again once my sister and friend return from vacations!
sunmimi imfurst Posted June 4, 2023 Posted June 4, 2023 My thots: I thought it was pretty good overall, with the mindset it mostly for kids. Idk why my expectations were pretty low but definitely left with a positive impression. The graphics were stunning! Definitely had a magical feel. I did feel the ending was quite rushed though? Halle, Mellissa and scuttle/flounder/seb did a good job. The other actors were quite wooden imo. I know Awkwafina gets dragged sometimes but she did a really good job.
industry baby Posted June 4, 2023 Posted June 4, 2023 I’m at the cinema to watch this and i’m only one in their 20s Its all kids and their parents here ihihihi , i feel stupid but anyways imma enjoy this movie 1

They have uploaded the scuttlebutt scene on youtube. If they”re smart they release Kiss The Girl when the numbers start dropping and Part Of Your World to give it a final boost. They also have the second half of Under The Sea that hasnt been uploaded yet. The whole marketing has been a slow burn from the beginning. They started with the darkest scenes, and muted colors. Only for the brightest stuff to be revealed last.

BNF91 Posted June 4, 2023 Posted June 4, 2023 (edited) $40.6M 2nd wknd domestic, $187M running total. On the lower end of what I thought but still, a 57% drop is solid for this weekend. Anything below 60% was a good sign IMO. Edited June 4, 2023 by BNF91

BNF91 Posted June 4, 2023 Posted June 4, 2023 (edited) OS with a beautiful hold! $42.6M wknd down just 38% from last wknd. $141M running total. It can still get to $275M OS before Japan release, which means $300M+ still possible. Global weekend take is $83M (-51%), for $327M running total. With Domestic looking safe to clear $300M and then some, we can still reach $625-650M total, or more. Edited June 4, 2023 by BNF91

That's a 38% drop in spite of it completely dying off in China/SK. There's no reason why it can't make another $130M without Japan. That's not even a longshot guess like.. Without Japan, Dumbo would be at $230M internationally OVERALL that is a $45M gap with $275M. I don't think The Little Mermaid will reach $275M without Japan.

We are talking about completely different release windows (March/April Vs Summer), Dumbo was not nearly as well received as TLM and TLM seems to have had a much stronger hold and also a bigger weekend than Dumbo had in its 2nd weekend. Despite opening higher, Dumbo has already fallen behind TLM OS. Why are you worrying about what Dumbo did? Especially after it got destroyed by a little movie called Avengers Endgame which opened to over $1.2 BILLION. Just extract multipliers using a typical summer run family films. Another $130M off $42M 2nd weekend is... Totally normal. Edited June 4, 2023 by BNF91
ATRL Moderator kelly-clarkson Posted June 4, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted June 4, 2023 I loved the movie. Halle and the actor who played the prince Eric have a great chemistry Can't wait to rewatch it on Disney+ 1

Dumbo got literally annihilated, wiped off the face of the earth in like it's 4th or 5th week by a $1.2 billion opening, the biggest debut of all-time by a mile. Edited June 4, 2023 by BNF91
