Face it, she was born for this role. Just bcs of some silly comment she made as a 16 yo, doesn't mean she'll never work again. Grow up atrL #TeamLea

Not Lea's ticket cost over $500 compare to Beanie's $100-150.

The power.

But the pressure on openning night will be so heavy. All eyes will be on her, cant even imagine the stress. Hope she can pull through.

I'm so happy for Lea honestly. She deserved more opportunities after glee than what she got

well it's at least 100x more believable that previous broadway lead, and emmy/globe nominee, lea michele would lead Funny Girl than that teenager with zero experience rachel berry would do the same.

This is what I was thinking.

Producers and investors are betting all of their coins she's coming to save this revival. Lea is either coming for a redempction arc or a massive failure, especially because we all know how much she wanted this role.

She will not fail, she knows this musical backwards and has a great voice

I'm sure Lea will put on an amazing show, my post talking about a commercial perspective. There's a huge pressure on her shoulders to save this show from being a financial loss.

to be fair, broadway shows often flop.

On Broadway, ~80% of producers and investors struggle to recoup their investments, a number that has stayed consistent since at least the 1960s. Almost everyone agrees tickets are too expensive, yet slashing prices would almost certainly lead to greater failures.

article estimates about $645k operating costs per week.

funny girl in its most recent week made $628k.

hamilton took 6 months to break even, and that was a blockbuster. wicked took 15 months.

I’m sure some investors earn back from increase of tourism or something, cause there would be no point otherwise (Vegas residencies teas) :deadbanana2:

well there's the prestige and excitement of investing in the arts, for some, esp if they're rich.

also if you choose the right one you can call yourself a tony winner for putting money in.

the reigning musical winner's producers:

Billy Porter, Alan Cumming, Ilana Glazer, Jennifer Hudson, Don Cheadle, Mindy Kaling, RuPaul Charles, Barbara Whitman, Page 73 Productions, Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, Zach Stafford, Hunter Arnold, Marcia Goldberg, Alex Levy, James Achilles, Osh Ashruf, Bridgid Coulter Cheadle, Paul Oakley Stovall, Jimmy Wilson, Annapurna Theatre, Robyn Coles, Creative Partners Productions, Kayla Greenspan, Grove Entertainment, Robyn Gottesdiener, Kuhn, Lewis & Scott, Maximum Effort Productions Inc., Richard Mumby, Marc Platt, Debra Martin Chase, Phenomenal Media, Meena Harris, Laurie Tisch, Yonge Street Theatricals, Dodge Hall Productions/JJ Maley, the John Gore Organization, James L. Nederlander, and The Shubert Organization.

if you have millions of dollars and it costs thousands to potentially buy yourself a tony, why not?

Yep and this is also where the 'casting couch' comes into play in film, music, fashion, theatre, part of the "excitement"....  although perhaps things have changed a bit recently post Me Too
