Smarticle Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 what is the mainstream? it feels like not much has been done
Vermillion Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 No wonder Kate Bedingfield's leaving. Looks like she wanted to torch the place on her way out with this death knell statement for an easy K-Street job. This is more than tone-deaf from Kate Bedingfield. This is a Howard Dean scream, Hillary Clinton coal, Pete Buttigieg "all blacks are homophobic", Elizabeth Warren "I'm native" moment. The backlash I'm seeing is fierce and will far outweigh and outlast any kind of delineation and alienation Kate's attempted here. Talk about a seismic moment. How offensive to the Dem activists in the trenches in Georgia fighting to keep it blue. Side-note: On what planet does DeSantis not turn off moderates? More horseshoe BS. How do you extrapolate from 538 that his high approvals mean indies like him? No, he's shored up an impenetrable base, period. That's borne out by the data. Also, I'm with David Hopkins and Matt Grossmann's theory on asymmetric politics to avoid D's trying to mirror R's shoring of their base. A different strategy has to be needled in an Electoral College system to aim for the base to motivate enough non-voters while also tamping down enough of the backlash to the strategy with the middle. We don't have any other strategy at the moment on the left, really.

byzantium Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 What coalition do they need to assemble? There is already a majority coalition who want abortion rights. Now it is our representative's job to quite literally represent that majority.
Sugar-Rush Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 I mean they're right. It's not Biden's fault that the SCOTUS is corrupt, and there's nothing he can really do about that.
GraceRandolph Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 Biden should step down at this point. It’s clear he’s not fit for this moment.
BraveNewSeth Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 What exactly is his job then? He's done literally nothing since he became president.

He was elected specifically to do nothing. This is what "mainstream Democratic Party voters" voted for in the primary. A feckless old man who was always going to hide behind institutions as a reason his hands would always be too tied up for him to meet any sort of expectation. They wanted "mellow" Biden who has always openly despised and disparaged grassroots organizers and activists over rambunctious, offensive Trump who embraces his voter base.

Again they want him to use his magic wand and make it go away ? a lot of them have no clue how government works.

Cain Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 I’m actually close to giving up on politics, it seems to truly not matter who’s voted into power because all the constructions will remain the same making every leader a complacent and corrupt puppet
