What’s your honest opinion on “queerbaiting”?

There are several artists being accused of this (Harry Styles, Charlie Puth, Lady Gaga etc.) but there are also some people who claim it’s not a real thing. What does ATRL think?

Let’s Discuss.

It's a non issue. Y'all would rather these guys be homophobic? I mean you’re accomplishing the mission then by always complaining whenever they do anything paying homage to LGBT

I don't really care, mostly because I don't think I could ever be naive enough to believe that a straight man looking for clout actually understands what it's like to be a gay man or cares for our well-being. If he wants to show his ass or bulge in pictures, I'll watch and may enjoy, but I don't think I could ever be convinced someone like Nick Jonas is a genuine "ally" for posing in a jockstrap or Harry for wearing a dress (unless they like, opened an LGBT youth center or something).

It’s not my place to comment on it but the way Lady Gaga has been doing it for years is disgusting.

It’s lame/cringe to me, but so is dissecting  someone else’s sexuality.

Why is bisexual woman Lady Gaga in here? Only losers accuse her of queerbaiting. The woman has done for this community more than anyone from her peers.

Queerbaiting is real and it doesn't bother me personally but people doing it are exhausting and you cannot convince me that someone like Charlie Puth (take a look at his TikTok and the rest of his social media) who keeps baiting his gay fans knows about any of our struggles. Yall really need to look up the real meaning behind allyship.

I blame gays and I reject the idea. The same gays who get waspish at a respectable gay person, there are few, let’s be honest, who protest the idea of a person testing out whether or not they’re a baguette on you. “tHeY hAvE a RiGHt tO eXpEriMeNt” No. This type of thinking is why the gay porn industry and the gay community with flippant sexual orientations and labels every week but dare not say gay is in a state of ruins. Be like the Jews and keep it kosher and stop thinking about you, yourself, and you.

Its just twitter bullsh1t. If you are dumb enough to believe a straight guy isnt using some of ya'll for clout or money then u have bigger issues. So nope i dont feel bad for old gullible gays who get tricked by straight guys with onlyfans.

If they’re hot, they can queerbait me as much as they want :gaycat5:

If they’re not hot, oh well. I might be a little annoyed but it’s not the biggest deal to me. I don’t like the way that some stans on Twitter push others to come out to prove they’re not queerbaiting and I think there are bigger issues facing the community that don’t get nearly as much discussion.

Y'all do not understand advocacy and allyship. It is not taking center stage, it is being supportive. How can you guys find fault in Oscar-bait trophies but not queerbaiting in itself? And what do you gain from queerbaiting? It doesn't lessen homophobia nor add economic value to the LGBT community.

Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow is the perfect example of this done right. Jack Harlow didn't start gaying it up in/on Industry Baby. He brought his cis-heteroness to Lil Nas X’s gay and it worked. Look at Jack now.

It sounds like you're saying it's wrong for people to explore their sexuality. If so, that's actually not a progressive but a conservative idea.

I don’t care. Corporations do the exact same thing and nobody seems to give a **** about that. Plus if you’re so involved in someone famous’s personal life that this affects you deeply, that’s probably unhealthy

Is sounds to me like "queerbaiting" involves making assumptions about someone's sexual orientation based on their behavior. Which is bigoted, discriminatory behavior.

there are instances when queerbaiting is just for profit or self-gain, and not genuinely supporting the cause/community at all, and what's icky about that is they're just exploiting the community.

look at companies who offer limited products/services during pride month, but don't donate the proceeds or even part of it to LGBTQIA+ foundations. I've seen homophobes taking up queer roles, and then express how challenging and disgusting the role was, without even thinking about proper representation.

I literally do not care. The world has bigger problems and my opinion will not change. Stop being so sensitive and drop the pop psychology

Only people who care are the woke Twitter gays who have a problem with everyone and everything. Who tf cares if Harry Styles waves a pride flag at every concert, he's sure as hell doing more good than he is harm.

It’s cringe and embarrassing watching people do it for attention because it’s acting like being gay or queer is something people do for attention or should remain controversial.

However queerbaiting is different to straight people portraying queer people in film, TV and other formats or even straight people writing about queer stories. We want tasteful and respectful representation, which is so important and not people cashing in on us for a quick lil moment of controversy.
