Back to #25 on AM which honestly impressing me with how a house pop song like this isn't free falling

I think it's finally starting to truly catch on with the GP

Happy was a fluke for Pharrell as all the following singles from that album tanked. Jay Z’s hits featured 2 artists (1 being a white popstar) who were under 40 at the time. Flo Rida was 36 when My House was a hit, big difference from being 40. Beautiful was a moderate hit and again featured a younger artist. There are just as many instances if not more of white/non-black artists having hits over 35: Gwen’s whole solo career, Madonna - Music, COADF, JLO - On The Floor, Into You, Shakira - Chantaje, Sia - Cheap Thrills, The Greatest, Maroon 5 - Memories, JT - Say Something, P!nk - What About Us The idea that black artists don’t suffer from ageism is completely false and there’s a big difference between ageism for men and ageism for women. If your point was true then Beyoncé wouldn’t be the first black woman over 40 to have a multi-week top 10 with a new song since Tina decades ago, she is clearly the exception to the rule.

Yeah and Tina was 53 at the time :deadbanana4:

THAT'S THIRTY YEARS :deadbanana4: Are you sure asdfghjkl I mean I believe you but I'm flabbergasted :skull: I'm happy for Bey but... thirty years between multi-week Top 10s by black women in their 40s? A shame and a disgrace.

There are many people, especially outside the U.S, who don’t consider Mariah black or even know she is biracial in the first place as she’s white passing like below: A member in this same thread also literally just called her a quadroon a few pages back and excluded her  :skull: People have different views on race so that’s why I said that but this is off topic so let’s leave it here.

This is roughly 20 pages late but not my innocent question causing four massive debates here :deadbanana4:

I mean, I'm thrilled because the bolded line and responses above are the tea I needed spilled.

So what I suspected was right. Ageism on Top 40, especially in (but not exclusive to) the U.S. is different for men and women.

But why are we setting 35 as the cut-off for the above examples? Is that the cut-off for Top 40 now down from 40 years old? :deadvision:

And that point from the other user on black people, even when older, being seen as cooler so they last longer with hits might make sense in theory or in blogs but in practice I'm not sure it holds water as much as it used to :michael: I'm....white...so I'm trying to tread carefully here.

Good Saturday #s in the US to prepare for the Sunday collapse:clap3:

+219 spins is good, the +56 spins got me a bit worried yesterday.

Either way the song needs a push. I hope it will finally get one soon beyond just the album's release.

Im sure that BMS era is coming to an end and that onc ethe album drops she will move to the second single, that is the only logical step in the streaming era, otherwise the second single (and all other potential singles) will loose stamina. She should have released MV weeks ago. Time to move onto to a new single once the album drops.

I'm not sure she'll do that, she hasn't even released the video yet

I think all this song needs at this point is a video to propel it to top 3, Bey’s team shouldn’t give up on it so easily. Release bms video with album release and then single 2 video three weeks later and right before vmas

this BMS era won't end with album drop. they will try to push BMS on The Hot 100. I think they will release a video and discount digital versions in store on release week. it doesn't make sense to release 2nd single when BMS is in the top10.

Break My Soul should be eligible for Gold in the US by this Friday, July 29th.

I doubt there'll be discounted versions. She hasn't discounted any of her music in like a decade.
