Well why is simplicity a bad thing? Beyoncé has often favoured simplistic productions where the main melody/chords/features of the song are delivered through vocal performance/riding the beat/harmonies/etc.

 

Examples like Get Me Bodied where the production is basically just the same thing the whole time show this very well.

 

BREAK MY SOUL feels clean and crisp because they didn't overcrowd the production with other elements and so you can better focus on what they did add: vocals, Big Freedia, the choir.

 

Gaga is and has always been more of a maximalist when it comes to production and that too is not a good or bad thing and does not necessarily mean it took more time to produce. Clean and simple can be just as challenging as anything else.
