It’s a somewhat overwhelming dose of pop, in a good way. And fully overwhelming with weed and headphones this album does provide an overwhelming audio experience with headphones.. sometimes, I had to pause the album as I get overwhelmed with the whole experience. She really came to play with our ears!

I've been very relieved about the praise she's received from people who normally don't listen to her. It seems like her embracing a new territory for her is helping!
Ice Cream Skies Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 I feel a little bad for Cuff It because it has to follow the first 3 songs and feels a bit safer as a result, but it's a really good song and links up extremely well with the transition into Energy and Break My Soul. People were talking about hearing the album in sections, and I agree - I sort of separate them like this: 1. I'm That Girl -> Cozy -> Alien Superstar 2. Cuff It -> Energy -> Break My Soul -> Church Girl 3. Plastic off the Sofa -> Virgo's Groove 4. Move -> Heated 5. Thique -> All Up In Your Mind -> America Has a Problem -> Pure/Honey -> Summer Renaissance What's interesting is that turned out to be how the vinyl sides were arranged, except 3 + 4 are combined, of course (4 sides total).

This album is truly opening her music back up to audiences she's never had, or lost a while back. I went to a bar for my friend's birthday last night and another of my friends ran over to me to tell me how obsessed he is with Renaissance. He's never really been a fan of Bey, she's just never done it for him. But he was talking about how much he loved this album and how his faves are PURE/HONEY, THIQUE and ALIEN SUPERSTAR. Love that she's reaching new people 25 years into her career!

Starshine Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 The first half of Energy and Move I really don't care for. I just get too much of The Gift flashbacks and although they aren't skips, they just wouldn't be put on repeat. Funny how my least favorite songs are always the collabs. I don't care for Church Girl either. This album ties 4 and BEYONCÉ for my skipless/favorite Bey albums and are pretty much interchangeable depending on my mood.

It's a really weird track, in the best way. The sirens in the background, the sped up gospel song, Beyoncé shout-rapping through most of it. I see how it could have viral appeal, but I can also see a lot of people being like "Wtf is this".

I feel like popping ***** in church songs have been around for a while now? Especially with the new wave of female rappers doing them

Basically, based on the reviews I've been seeing.. it's definitely one of the most polarizing tracks on this album. You'll either like or dislike it.. personally, I love Church Girl because it's bizarre yet strangely works for what she was trying to achieve with the song.

She's one of the very few artists who can do that for me... and also because she's got lasting power and her career is about as old as I am. Renaissance is a breath of fresh air for me after troubling and my toughest times. I just want to dance and she is giving me that. And to think we have more albums coming. I wonder down the road if we'll count the trilogy as "one" entire project because I can't see her touring 3 times for this. Magnum opus yup. Edited July 31, 2022 by Starshine

I wonder down the road if we'll count the trilogy as "one" entire project because I can't see her touring 3 times for this. Magnum opus yup. This!! After years of depressing albums (and don't get me wrong, I LOVE my moody melodic anthems with political themes and commentary on the current state of affairs) however with everything going on in the world, so much death, heartache and loss, this album was a breath of fresh air. It breathed LIFE right back into the mainstream music scene where it had become quite dull and uneventful (at least for me, especially in 2022 and over the last few years). I haven't enjoyed an album this much in YEARS. This album has brought so many people joy in these dark and uncertain times, including me. Bey already gave us albums exploring politics, powerful controversial themes, complex lyricism, etc, Bey had FUN with this album and it shows. Renaissance makes you want to dance, live life to the fullest, appreciate the things you take for granted, enjoy the moment and don't think about the rest. Idk about anyone else, but an album like Renaissance was NEEDED. Definitely a magnum opus contender.
