I don't blame you. It's such an etheral groove and such an highlight to end Renaissance with.

Think for a second which vernacular these expressions were taken from. This album is all about reclaiming, after all.

I mean the song is perfect the entire way through and that outro with those choir vocal layers, followed by a breakdown & then followed by those harmonies. I swear on my first listen I left my body.

ANOTHER RUN OF LISTEN

TOP 3 IN NO ORDER:

PLASTIC OFF THE SOFA

VIRGO'S GROOVE
CUFF IT

Is Bey the one talking at the end of Alien Superstar? (“We dress a certain way, we walk a certain way…”) It sounds sort of like her doing a campy voice, but it also could be a sample from something else. Can’t figure it out!

YES! I felt this too!

Bey is paying homage to so many that came before her all over this album. :heart2: I'm so glad she always shows love to pioneers. So many new artists are so ungrateful to the people that came before them.

Nope. It's from Barbara Ann Teer's black theatre speech.

BARBARA ANN TEER SAMPLED ON RENAISSANCE

As outlined by Pitchfork, the official Renaissance credits reveal that Alien Superstar contains a sample from influential woman Barbara Ann Teer.

The words come from her “Black Theatre” speech which was provided to YouTube by Smithsonian Folkway Recordings.

The 20-minute clip sees Barbara, who founded Harlem’s National Black Theatre, speaking about her life, background and creating the New York performing arts company.

Barbara’s voice can be heard towards the end Beyoncé’s new song Alien Superstar. A portion of her speech has been sampled which begins at 2:48.

“We dress a certain way. We walk a certain way. We talk a certain way. We paint a certain way. We make love a certain way, you know?” she says.

“All of these things we do in a different, unique specific way that is personally ours,” she continues before Beyoncé’s voice reappears.
