SimpleKindofLife Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 I think this album is an extremely important listen because it really shows the intersectionality between black women and queer culture. Beyoncé knows the gays and theys ride for her more than anyone else so therefore this is a gift to us. Every one of her albums is different and this one feels like her triumphant celebration album after her days of morphing from a mega pop star to a moody vocalist queen mega artisté. I just don’t know a more versatile artist

skwonderfactory Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Just had my first listen of this body of work and wow, there’s a lot to process. Overall, I definitely enjoyed it but there were moments I felt there was too much going on. This is definitely her best vocally, her most experimental, and her most self-referential/self-aware body of work by a long shot. I appreciate the song references between one another and some of the clever lyrics throughout. “CHURCH GIRL” is the only song I am truly conflicted over and don’t see growing on me; the juxtaposition between the hook and the rest is just too much. RENAISSANCE songs rankings after first listen: 1. “VIRGO’S GROOVE” 2. “SUMMER RENAISSANCE” 3. “CUFF IT” 4. “ALIEN SUPERSTAR” 5. “PLASTIC OFF THE SOFA” 6. “HEATED” 7. “PURE/HONEY” 8. “COZY” 9. “ALL UP IN YOUR MIND” 10. “MOVE” 11. “BREAK MY SOUL” 12. “I’M THAT GIRL” 13. “THIQUE” 14. “AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM” 15. “ENERGY” 16. “CHURCH GIRL” Beyoncé discography ranking: LEMONADE >> BEYONCÉ >>>> RENAISSANCE >> B’Day = 4 >>>>>> I Am… Sasha Fierce >>>>>>>>> The Lion King: The Gift >>>> EVERYTHING IS LOVE >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dangerously in Love

I’d say this album is better than that and Dangerously in Love at least I'm part of the small minority that thinks IASF is a great album, I never got the hate towards it

R&B artists do better on AM so I expect the Spotify numbers to be kinda underwhelming in comparison But the AM slayage is very promising for her first week Anyway, I gotta cool it down, HEATED
Katamari Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 i would say its her "worst" lyrically since DIL but who needs lyrics with production and vocal harmonies this good
19SLAYty9 Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Almost every song would be a better single choice than CG. Cozy? Alien superstar? Cuff it (probably the safest choice)? Plastic off the sofa? Virgos groove? America has a problem? Heated (probably the second safest)? Pure/honey? Summer renaissance? All would be better choices. also… BMS has a shot at #1 this week… if she drops the vid it will.
Lose My Breath Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Why are people streaming the explicit less than clean? Mess

Mess when i went to the album the first time it was the clean version. i think that was the default for alot of ppl when they opened the album. didnt really care until "stretch marks on my ****" was censored i just had to know what she was saying
SeeingStars1515 Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 (edited) I love the songs on BDay individually - and the album has aged well - but its all strong songs but none pale to what shes done the last 3 eras sonically. I like this album more than Lemonade, only because Lemonade didnt quite age well for me today sonically. Renaissance is just so sexy and well-produced. I think ST might edge it out solely because of the sonic change from previous albums, (I always 4 highly overrated - so much so that I forgot to include it in my previous ranking lol) Current trinity: Heated, Virgos Groove, Cuff It Edited July 29, 2022 by SeeingStars1515
QueenBLadyG Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 The clean version was my default. I had to search for the explicit version.

I feel like it could be her "Work" kind of hit like Rihanna. It is infectious. I didn’t care about MOVE at first but it’s legit had the most growth on me. I just listened to it reading/ singing along with the lyrics and it’s such a BOP. It could definitely be a dark horse hit
QueenBLadyG Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Whole lotta playin' victim and the villain at the same time

I died and was resurrected.
QueenofCopyPaste Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 QUESTION IS THE VINYL AVAILABLE IN STORES OR JUST ONLINE?
Johnathon Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 The way each song has a career highlight within it

Touch It Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 This album gets better every listen Alien superstar is a discography highlight and probably top 5 in her discography for me - the chorus and outro give me chills every single time and the verses are so fun I'm that girl already grew on me a lot - it's a really fun intro & it'll be really fun as an opening song for a tour if she does one for this album She sounds AMAZING on Cuff It and it's such a fun groovy track - definitely what I was expecting from this album the most and the transition into energy is so smooth Church Girl is really fun! I could see Megan remixing this song in the future and it smashing Plastic off the sofa is BEAUTIFUL and while it feels a little random on the album, I'm really happy we got a laid back r&b track on the album because I love her tracks like this Virgo's groove & summer renaissance are excellent & also discography highlights The production on thique is INSANE, I'm obsessed America has a problem is so fun and I'm obsessed with the sound, her little rap parts are so good, main rap girl confirmed! The whole album is really excellent and fun and transports me into its own world - definitely tied with self titled as my favorite Bey album
