kandicha Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Pure/Honey Summer Renaissance is the perfect album closer, it feels transcendental and taking all of us to another plane. And, I love that we're giving Donna Summer her flowers and hopefully introducing her to another generation!!!
wish Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 This album is a LOT to digest at once btw. It's intense and wildly varied, so many different major moments scattered throughout. She's insane for releasing the entire thing like this
Pepo Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 (edited) Energy is meh so far. Church Girl... I need more listenings, but it's not a bad song per se. Edited July 27, 2022 by Pepo
Doogle Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 I hate this stupid ******* website let me post I just want to say that this is probably on track to tie first as my fave Bey album with 4. It does everything I loved about the big throwback bops on 4 (and B’Day of course) but has the untouchable artistic production we’ve come to expect since self titled. Also paired with it being her most experimental album yet super cohesive. BMS is literally there as a radio single and it’s smashed so she played that game well. The second half is devastatingly excellent. I didn’t even know she was capable of some of this. Like this is how to make dance. It pops so much and it’s not generic or cliche. It’s super gay and the lyrics feel very fun and carefree. I laughed out loud several times. I also love the clear black influence; you cannot deny that this is through and through a Beyoncé project. Plastic off the Sofa sticks out nicely as a nice change of pace too but the album isn’t ever one note. The production and transitions … flawless. Finally, America Has A Problem. I know it’s first listen hyperbole but this could become my fave of all time or certainly up there. That right there was my wildest dreams for Bey coming true in real time. I adore that 90s sound and paired with what felt like I was going through space and getting video game vibes with her perfect vocals. An absolute masterclass. And it’s risky to do Donna Summer, but the fact she smashed it and got it SO right and closed the album flawless. There’s really no one on her level and this album once again solidifies that.
