The biggest western franchise vs. biggest franchise of the East (before you say Pokemon, were talking TV shows!).

Who wins? :giraffe:

Dragon Ball is stomping since the 80s :clap3:

HP fees tired after 10 years, that panned new trilogy was the nail in the coffin :biblio:

HP may have a bigger peak but DG has more longevity.

I adore both, but currently Harry potter has more relevance, however Dragon Ball is more iconic and remembered than Harry potter

Harry Potter isn’t a TV show genius. It’s a book series from a transphobic author. Queen Pokaémon stomps them all I fear. :bunny:

Not me wanting to say take GT out of the poll and then reading this post. The accuracy.

Hard to say otherwise, I feel like they’re big in different mediums/ways. They also came out in different generations, which is also a factor.

I grew up with DBZ and have never gotten into HP. But I lean towards HP. The DB series never felt as mainstream as HP if I’m being honest. It’s definitely a huge hit and a cultural monster. But HP just felt it was on another level basically no other IP can reach.

Harry Potter was a way bigger cultural phenomenon. Even when Dragon ball blew up in the west, it was around the toonami era and the same time the Harry Potter books started becoming top sellers. ?‍♀️ Don’t even have to include the movies, witch just furthers the gap. It’s one of the biggest franchises of the 2000’s and one of the biggest film franchises of all time. And I don’t even care for HP, but it’s kinda hard to deny that.

Dragonball is a beast itself and it’s longevity is even more impressive then Harry. People who don’t even care for anime have always known Goku, or super Saiyan. It’s so iconic, that the franchise has been milked to death several iterations on. The Super Revival was monumental, and proves that generations upon generations of new fans are still engaging with DBZ. It’s not as massive as the HP books & Movies. But the Gap isn’t as astronomical as some western fans think
