See BTS army leader miss rafael (something) for example its also not a good thing to take stanning seriously once you're an adult I believe there's always a subconscious reason why you take stannism so serious, even at 50. I don't even only mention ATRLers with women. I saw, in my country, cis white men still obsessed with the local rock star or a pop boy who died 40 years ago.

terrorblade Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 same tbh but I'm still a little biased when it comes to discussing my former faves
RockStarShit101 Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 I don't stan anyone anymore. I'm just a casual fan to everybody that releases a good song/album/movie etc.
MotoPapi Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 Same Stanning is a personality disorder that should be treated as such by a psychiatrist. Such weird behavior.

Over the years, i realised it was quite an unhealthy behaviour. From the "die hard stan" syndrome to "trying to identify to him/her/them." Right now, when it comes to singers, i just care about the music and that's it. I prefer seeing them as people who bring you a service (good music) rather than as idols to worship. I think it's important to consider them as equals to us. Consciously or subconscious, most of us take them as superior entities (and ofc the industry game is to make us feel so) I’m actually having similar thoughts for the last few months, good for u!
KCLA Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 (edited) Yet you are here on ATRL but G4U Edited June 15, 2022 by KCLA
Alldeezy Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 I tried to unstan denis Stoff but it's too impossible Think stanning someone is like my get away. When I focus on my fave all my real life problems and hurts are pushed aside. Kinda like a FP with my bpd and have had it my whole life before I was older it was TV show or a toy. I had to obessese over something. Im 30 atm currently stanning allday. And he helps me. So guess I'll be stanning for rest of my life
Gladiator Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 I think there is different kinds of stanning. The truly obsessed stans need to seek some intervention of some sort because that behavior is very unhealthy and probably risks a lot of mental stability. I think the overwhelming majority of people on sites like this have an artist that they casually stan but play it up for amusement / boredom reasons when communicating in topics here, though.
ATRL Moderator Bloo Posted June 16, 2022 ATRL Moderator Posted June 16, 2022 It's called growing up. Life is better on the other side.

It got exhausting and i definitely found my own interests! I remember being in early college asking friends to buy Tinashe's Joyride that i would venmo them for bc I was desperate for her to debut higher . Then i would also be on social media reading constant stan wars and taking things personal for some reason about my favs. Idk what happened maybe it tied in with the pandemic, but it all stopped mattering to me. I still call myself a stan for people but i wouldn't be dying for these artists anymore i just enjoy their music more than others. It's funny seeing young fanbases act this certain way too now bc i grew out of it recently
The7thStranger Posted June 16, 2022 Posted June 16, 2022 Stan the art, not the person behind it. Or, in some cases, in front of it.

However I do greatly admire her work ethic and politics and try to bring that into my own life Couldn't have put it better myself! Admiring someone's craft and being inspired by their work ethic, personal resilience, and/or character traits is the healthiest way of stanning any public figure. Love the art, appreciate the joy and connection it brings to you, and know that the person behind it isn't a flawless deity. Thankfully, the majority of stans who lean into the hardcore toxic investment (i.e. mass streaming/buying campaigns + incessant fights over their faves) tend to be very young and immature and eventually grow out of it.
cypriotpcdfan Posted June 18, 2022 Posted June 18, 2022 Life is much better, isn't it? Now you can clearly see them for what they are. And they can't play you anymore. Very mature and keep this up

fauxtography Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 I've always been a loose "stan" compared to the current state of stanning. Other than a brief stint in middleschool/highschool where i had a Gaga stan twitter account, I never actually was a "stan" by most definition. ATRL is pretty much the only place I talk about pop stars. I don't even follow pop star topics on reddit or participate in stan communities on twitter.
