Would You Travel Abroad Alone?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I would love to visit Spain, Italy and Mexico but the majority of my fiends have DACA and can’t travel abroad and the friends who can travel are already married :rip:

Would you recommend traveling alone?

01/16/23 UPDATE 1:

I decided to travel to Mexico alone this spring! I’ll be going to Puerto Vallarta and perhaps Mexico City. :gaycat4:

Im also considering going to Universal Studios Hollywood by myself since none of my friends want to go with me (they’ll rather go to Disney). :rip:

Why not?

I've traveled to Spain, Italy, Germany, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Peru, Mexico, Brazil, and UK all by myself.

I prefer to travel by myself since I can do whatever I want or go to wherever I want.

Additionally, I hate if traveled with a cry baby who will ruin my holiday.

Done it a few times and had a lot of fun, mostly in eastern europe and the nordic countries tho. I probably wouldn't want to travel alone in Africa or the middle east however, I'd want to take someone along for that

I travelled alone for the first time ever last November (to Fuerteventura). Ended up being by far the best trip I've ever had. But at the same time it was so good that I kept thinking I wanted to share that experience with someone.

Would I recommend? Depends on what kind of experience you are seeking I guess. Do you like being silly and having fun with friends on holidays? Or do you like to explore and pretty good at approaching strangers? It can work out. But if the holiday isn't going as well as you thought it would, then having no one around would make it worse. But also I had an experience of going to Barcelona with one of my closest friends and we fell out the moment we got there, cause he decided to tell me he had feelings for me and it ruined the vibe for the rest of the trip.

Anyways, if you decide to go by yourself, you could always check a bunch of available apps and websites for connecting travelling strangers.

I did it for the first time in April. Went to Berlin alone and honestly it's great. You can do whatever you want whenever you want. Just came back from a trip on Sunday and it was a pain to do anything with the group. Things just take so much longer with a group. Ended up separating a lot of the time :toofunny2:

I went to a few European countries alone a few summers ago and absolutely loved it.

Posted

I went to Europe with a former friend who was already from there whose main focus was to chase dick and be a ***** which forced me to cut him off and spend the rest of my trip alone. I was not about to follow his lead and miss out on the culture, so I did my own thing. I managed to make new friends in the process and had a lot of fun regardless. Traveling with people can bring on a set of obstacles that can hinder your time and experiences. I also travel domestically by myself a lot and don’t regret anything.

I prefer it.  I don’t like traveling with people that much, I like doing things my own way and on my own schedule.  I feel like I can better immerse myself wherever I go when alone.

Do it, you won’t regret it

I’ve traveled alone for work and done things/met people/dates myself so kind of…. Not for fun though

You should do it with least ONE friend if you can. If not do ALOT of research about where you will be at & plan out what you want to do in advance each day so you have structure.

Sometimes having structure plans can make you feel safe or secure.

I went to Spain alone but i also had friends there to meet up with me.

I think I would get bored unless I met up with someone that lives there to show me around. One of my fears is visiting a country where English isn't the first language and I don't want to be THAT dumb American that can't socialize with anyone because I don't speak their language.

If you are hesitant, organize a trip to a local city near you first and see if you like spending time alone.

Yes. Traveling within Western Europe is generally safe - book yourself a room in a hostel, honestly the best/easiest place to mingle and meet up people who might be traveling on their own just like you.

Only Europe, the rest with someone else.

Yes, that's my default way of travelling, in fact.

I like to travel with my friends or family, but that's more to be with them than to see whatever place we're going.

It wouldn’t be my preference per say, but I mean I could do it, it would be something different and fun, I think:coffee2:

I had a bad experience going to a concert alone. The concert itself was fine but waiting alone for it to start while everyone else around me were in groups of friends gave me anxiety.
