Happylittlepunk Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 Britney, Taylor, and gaga are pretty well known outside the US. ariana also is extremely popular in Asia too.
k4rmabutterfly Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 (edited) Madonna obviously, and then Britney. Edited June 4, 2022 by k4rmabutterfly
Erreur2 La Nature Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 Spears but I’m convinced Taylor will win the poll
Virgos Groove Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 Madonna and it's not even close. She's an American cultural staple, like Hollywood or blue jeans.
MingYouToo Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 As someone who lived in Asia for a majority of their life before moving to the States, I can definitely say Madonna for the millenial-boomer generation. My mother knows KNOWS Madonna like for real, Papa Don't Preach, Vogue, Material Girl, her chain mail denim fashion was a staple for them, she WAS the American female young girls back in the 80s aspired to be around the world. Not close to her level of fame but I'm pretty sure Shania Twain did a pretty good job of making country and farmgirl females a desirable aesthetic for the rest of the world. However, speaking to my own experience, the biggest bringer of softpower-positive influence to America (since soft power really means using culture and arts to increase favorability perception by foreign nations), it definitely boils down to Taylor Swift and Britney Spears. Britney sparked the bubblegum pop wave globally and EVERYONE knew how sexy and catchy her songs were. She was the ideal teen girl, everyone imitated the school girl aesthetic, her face was PLASTERED everywhere. She was the quintessential 21st century teenage hottie! Taylor, on the other hand, really brought country music to the forefront of global consciousness when she smashed. She made a very 'americanized' country sound more palatable to the new generation. She was what the world thinks of when they think of 'average nice white girl' she isn't average by any means but she is an amalgamation of all of those perceptions, easy on the eyes, isn't offensive, very American.
byzantium Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 So the answer remains Madonna easily. Britney as the princess of pop had a big moment. From the recent generation, its Taylor mostly because her whole pop culture imagery is wrapped up in modern Americana.
Planet Mars Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 Madonna and Beyoncé It's funny cause my parents are these older African (Cameroonian) people in their 50's and 60's, yet back in the 1980's Madonna (after Michael Jackson) was an artist they heard about. When I first got into Madonna after the 2012 SB, I brought her up to my mom and she referred to her as the material girl , she even likes La Isla Bonita lmao. These days it's Beyoncé, there are several Nigerian and Ghanaian movies about her, she's a dream Collab for Afro beats stars and the recent in the popularity of K-pop has only highlighted that even in Asia she's a standard for American artists and superstardom. Britney and Taylor are also up there.
Carrie-is-no-1 Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 Madonna followed by Britney. not Taylor winning the poll she has the sales and longevity, but Britney’s peak 1999-2021 was really something else
stevyy Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 Mariah Carey took German Christmas traditions and re-introduced them globally, including Germany. That's some next level ****.
Rev8 Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 (edited) Yea, I do agree with Madonna (who doesn't, obviouslyyyy) Britney next (her even having clones in other countries ) Edited June 4, 2022 by Rev8
