BOOMBAYAH Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 Taylor’s team scrubbing every trace of him being gay/having a husband is kind of sad. He’s literally the lead of a gay #1 film and he’s still feeling the pressure to present as straight. This kind of shows how behind we are, and how gay people having careers in entertainment is still a challenge.
Assassin Posted September 9, 2023 Posted September 9, 2023 It flopped opening weekend. Less than 1.5M views. Maybe it will be a grower.

For its weekend premiere it was the top watched film worldwide on the platform and provoked what Prime Video described as "a huge surge" of new subscribers. So what is the truth?

So what is the truth? Without giving any real numbers, this is all PR bullshit. Amazon doesn't release new movies that frequently so of course it was the most watched film when it came out. This is the same as a movie flopping at the box office despite being the #1 movie opening weekend.

Next week's report should give us a more transparent look at its performance considering it will cover the film's first full week on Amazon. I'm a little surprised it didn't crack the top ten movies (even as a weekend release)

The threshold was around 2M views considering it's runtime. Maybe it will with the first full week, like you said. 1
Stegeo Posted September 9, 2023 Posted September 9, 2023 This is being submitted as a TV film for the 2024 Golden Globes Which means that an Emmy nomination for best TV movie is likely next year.
bluceleste Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Given the hype, I wasn’t expecting it to feel like a Hallmark movie. I agree with those who said the pacing was off. Maybe it would have worked better as a tv series. It did, however, get better towards the end. The actor who plays the president’s son looks like he’s 30 something to me, so I didn’t get why they made the character seem younger.

Reminds me of that megathread from OldTRL when she was fired for this and people were spitting out drags comparing her to Nicole Scherzinger, Kimbra, M.I.A., Marina, etcetera. It felt very realistic given the context (first time doing it all the way with someone you're falling in love with), which I appreciate given I feel like we don't see this too much even in the few queer films/shows that do get made.
Elvenpath Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 I watched this yesterday and I loved it. I hope we will get a sequel.

Agreed! Just rewatched the film again tonight and I just find that scene so moving. You can see they really took care in making it a believable sex scene, which I loved.

How does Nielsen even calculate this though? I thought Amazon and other streamers didn’t release viewership data. So where do these numbers come from?

teenager Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 the film was kinda terrible but it’s a romcom and it has gays so I’m glad it’s having success. hopefully it will encourage more film studios to green light them 1
