It's true that Amazon was so greedy with the budget, like the entirety of it was giving Lifetime realness. :skull: The fake ass snow in the NYE scene bothered me so much and the Eiffel tower in that Paris hotel room scene was ridiculous. They could've avoided plenty of those issues without having to show where they were lmao.

Anyways, this was very cute, but most surprisingly funny and with a heart. I was not expecting the latter, particularly coming from a Wattpad book. It ticks the two essential boxes for a romcom. Uma was so unserious but I loved her and her comedy timing was good. Zahra had easily the best lines. And of course, both Taylor and Nicholas were really good at it (not expecting them to serve Oscar performances as the Letterboxd weirdos have been bitching about) and had tons of chemistry which was essential, perfectly cast tbh.

Do you know how good this is compared to other successful releases? I'm so happy it's doing great :jonny5:

I feel bad for them that they cannot express their excitement of being part of a smash gay movie (especially after Bros bombed so hard :rip:)

I don't, but it seems great! :duca:

Finished the book! It was charming, and I really enjoyed it! I'd rate it a solid 3.5/5. It did drag a bit towards the end, but I still found it quite enjoyable. Certain moments, particularly in chapter 10, really resonated with me. While I don't believe it reaches the level of other LGBTQ+ books like "Lie With Me," "The Swimming Pool," and "Song of Achilles," it doesn't take itself as seriously as those do. It has a more lighthearted/Gen-Z tone while still addressing some weighty themes. I’m going to watch the film ASAP! To be honest, I'm not expecting much beyond a cheesy romantic comedy. I'm aware that they've omitted a lot from the book, so I intend to view the film as a separate thing and fully immerse myself without making comparisons.

Omg I finally finished the film and it gave me major whiplash…I don’t think I liked it. It was so rushed, and so much of the emotion in the book was because of how it really took its time. They tried to get to the “climactic” parts in the film without the build up that made it worth it in the book. Ugh. So many pivotal scenes in the book where also just straight up not there. The scene where Alex flies to London to crash into the palace was SUCH an emotional rollercoaster to read, so tense, so hot, so passionate. And in the film it just…happened. :deadbanana4: we didn’t even get to see Henry reconcile with his emotions to get him to a point where he was finally okay with being out. And I hated how they merged the London trip to Wembley and the final trip where Alex confronts Henry together. It was a mess. Like, I know I said I wouldn’t compare the book but I literally couldn’t not just because it felt soooooo rushed. I think if I watched it first I would’ve enjoyed it more but still thought it was bad from a directing/writing level. I kind of don’t like the “romcoms are just bad” argument because they could be amazing, and this could’ve been amazing.

Also, justice for the Queen and Princess Catherine :jonny3: the Queen was a b*tch but she gagged me so much reading the book, she reminded me a bit of Cersei Lannister.

Watched this today after finishing work. Not a great movie by any means, but I’m so happy to see a gay romance being successful in the commercial home viewing market! :clap3:

Everything about this screams woman's fantasy of what gay love is like down to even the sex scene :bibliahh:

Just finished my third rewatch - I just can't get enough of it. I think the most important challenge here was to cast the right leads, and both did a flawless job. There's chemistry between them and acting wise, Henry's actor was always going to do much more as the character is in a more complicated position than Alex because he's a prince. Obviously, there are important scenes from the book that didn't translate to the movie, but ultimately, I don't care at all becase the pacing is so fast that you just can't get bored.

It is a funny gay rom-com with heart, and it was about time we have one of those!

This is doing great right?

i hope they release a sequel with more budget. I want to see more of Alex & Henry.

they can deep more on Henry’s feelings after he loses his father, they can add queen catherine. More Nora, more bea.

I think they can do two more movies.

I liked this, found it quite Dinsey Channel-y but it was very cute. The acting wasn't too bad.

The pacing was kinda too fast tho, maybe a mini series would have made it better.

Happy this is smashing.

Judge me all you want I don't care but I've watched it 7 times now. I never knew I needed a silly gay fairytale movie before I finally got one. I'm literally obsessed :weeps:

TV: So I read that you had to cut a lot from the film — tell me, is there actually a three-hour cut?

ML: Now this, alright. This has gotten a little out of hand. I need to set the record straight here. There was never a three-hour cut of this film. What I said to somebody — now I deeply regret saying it (laughs) — was the assembly of this film was about 2 hours and 45 minutes. But an assembly of a film, anyone who’s ever worked on a movie will tell you, an assembly is not a cut. An assembly is quite literally everything that’s in the script that was shot, strung together in order. And that first assembly came to about 2 hours and 45 minutes. So the movie was never 3 hours long and there was never a cut of the film that was 3 hours long. That is a misunderstanding that I need to correct everybody. There is no way on God’s green earth that anybody ever wants to see or ever should see the assembly of a film — to the point that not even my producers or the studio are allowed to see an assembly. It’s where the DGA goes, like only myself, my editor, and my editing team ever saw the assembly. So we’re not talking about a version of the film that was three hours long. We’re talking about when everything was put together without any consideration for timing, for pacing. All the film’s materials when strung together equaled 2:45. No one will ever see that.

But we still need to see the deleted scenes.

Okay i rewatched it and I like it way more, the book being in my head straight after I watched the first time definitely clouded my judgment. It’s still silly but that’s the charm of romcoms, I can only imagine a young gay kid watching this and it changing his life. I’m glad they have this and Heartstopper instead of tragic ass CMBYN.

Reading the book after watching the movie was the right order i fear. because now in my mind i have nicholas and taylor as henry and alex and it makes it more exciting

I am surprised about June though, she seems like quite a cool character to be cut off from the movie

Overall a cute watch. It was giving me The Princess Diaries 2.
