The prince literally has THE gayest face ever. How is he not a faguette irl? :chick2:

This is also the 3rd time he plays a queer person, and it seems that he will play another one in an upcoming show. Yeah he has confirmed he is straight but it's still a bit sus.

Also, why are cast directors giving so many gay roles to str8 people (if he is in fact str8 :thing:)

Because they’re hot :thing:

The movie was definitely cute, but the pacing was awful and the acting was slightly cringe. :michael:

I'd be open to a sequel based around them getting married though. :eli:

I had a good time watching this. I'm just really happy to see 2 hot MEN going at it on my screen. :allears:

If he's not out, then he's not gay/bi.

That's not how sexuality works. :deadbanana2:

That's how we have to see it. We should not try to guess it.

Now this is definitely for 2017'd white girls and the actors are actually terrible

Ha! But it's funny that "Jeremiah" in The Summer I Turned Pretty is supposed to be bisexual, but they haven't really shown much of that. He kissed a boy in last season, but that's it. At least he's pretty, lol. I hope they make something of that. There's not much bi boys in these shows/movies. And obvi now Alex in this movie is nice to have.

We shouldn't presume someone's sexuality, but to say that someone isn't gay/bi because they're not out publicly isn't true. :michael:

I agree with the not guessing part, but maybe it's time to stop thinking that people are straight by default anymore. And that would end the need for people to have to come out, because other people wouldn't expect you to be straight from birth then. Or at least I hope that's where the world is going.

It was cute and enjoyable. Plus how many actual gay romcoms do we have? It was just nice to get something fluffy with adults and not highschoolers

It had some cringe moments, but that was expected considering the book it was adapted from was serving Ao3 fanfic level of writing :clown:

Credit to the actor who played Henry, that scene with them on the water. When you can emote with just your expressions without uttering any lines :jonny5:

I read the book over the weekend, and it tbh was very fanfic-y and unrealistic - the plot, the characters, the world building. But I do think the romance, which is the main part of it, was believable and cute + it was a fun read overall.

As for the movie, I see that it was supposed to have an extra hour and you can definitely tell. The last third feels extremely rushed, and the part from emails leaking forward was my favorite part of the book. This would've deff worked better as a mini series, with 4-5 eps of 45-60min. That way they could've used other characters more and include those that were omitted, incl Alex's sister and Henry's mom, who were quite important imo, as well as flesh out all the other stories. The inclusion of that gay journalist was weird since Alex's not really supposed to be aware he's into guys; in the book all he's done was jerking off with his high school buddy and who hasn't done that. And the implication that he leaked the emails is v messy lmao. I like that we saw a bit more of Henry's perspective, considering the book is told from Alex's POV only for some reason

The actor who played the prince acted his bussy off, meanwhile the American one was mostly giving 'great pecs, beautiful pecs'. Not that it was disastrous, but you could tell the difference. The chemistry was great, the 'blond twunk gets barebacked for first time by a latino hunk' scene was nicely done. I'd do them both tbh.

The movie lowkey felt cheap for some reason, the only moment that wowed me was that staircase hug near the end, the rest was kinda giving Hallmark. Overall I agree it's important to have LGBT-themed rom-coms like this with, however I can't help but think this had much more potential than what we got.

I’m half way through the book and I’m ctfu at some of the dialogue, it sounds straight out of a Twitter thread :ahh: it is cute though, this is the first gay book I’ve read that isn’t so “serious” so I’m just enjoying taking it in. Can’t wait to watch the movie after.

Also as a British person it’s sending me how Henry talks in the book :ahh: that is nawt how young British people talk, even posh ones.

Wait, just realized we're missing out on a ton of fluffy promo content from the 2 leads due to the strike... There always need to be an L somewhere, doesn't it

Just finished it! I loved it. :weeps: I'm such a sucker for a rom-com, so I was fully on board with the cheesiness and the campness of it all. I understand the pacing concerns and fully agree with the suggestion of it working better as a mini-series instead. But regardless, I loved it. The chemistry between the two leads was fantastic, it was cute, it was romantic and it was sexy. Everything I wanted out of a queer rom-com.

However, I was really surprised at how weak Uma's acting was in this. She's such a tremendous actress and she was just so wooden here. It was likely because of the botox and her inability to register any expression on her face, but she really disappointed me. Nicholas really stole the show, but I think people are under-selling Taylor's performance. Nicholas was clearly more seasoned and nuanced, but Taylor still held his own.

I missed some of the excluded characters from the book and hated what they did to Miguel's character, but I understand why they made the changes.

Overall, I found it really enjoyable and loved that we have a queer, cheesy rom-com like the billions of straight ones. I'm certain I'll watch it many more times in the future and I really hope we get a sequel! :duca:

I agree. Taylor's character is supposed to be silly at the very beginning, but his performance improves gradually throughout the movie as his relationship with Henry progresses. Nicholas ate down though, I'm lowkey impressed.

I've watched it 3 times already and I will do it again for sure :skull: It may not be an Academy Award contender, but turns out it was exactly what I needed. LOVE IT.

Just finished my 4th watch and cried like a baby for like half of it. I'm afraid it's breaking me

Aww, glad you liked it! And wasn't it funny that Stephen Fry makes a cameo? Lol

Btw the fans are demanding Amazon to release the 3 hour version. The director said they made them cut it down to 2h. But now literally on every page for Amazon Prime the comments are full of it.

And yes, I'd love a sequel too, but the 3h version would let the storyline breathe more as it is. The ending felt kinda open for me though. Like they could write more to it. Maybe let's have the guys get married in the sequel. :chick3:
