Wildcat Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 (edited) A recent study has found that at least one in three people from Gen Z don’t know who the Beatles are. Roberts conducted a study to see how pop music travels through generations. Some artists can resonate with multiple generations, while others may fade with their stardom. Roberts surveyed a total of 2,000 UK respondents to find out how familiar they are with artists and their views on music. Unsurprisingly, big acts like Elvis Presley and The Beatles were well known, but at least one out of three people didn’t know who the Beatles are. Two out of three people were unfamiliar with Aretha Franklin, U2, and The Supremes. How Well Does Gen Z (Aged 16-23) Know Older Music Stars? Katamari Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 I thought the Beatles would higher considering it’s the uk but it’s still high enough
RockStarShit101 Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 Aretha Franklin might be forgotten among the younger people but her legacy will live on.
Everyperfectsummer Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 I fear gen Z is too busy discovering Kate Bush discography

Armani? Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 Both polls seem like noise Only 40% - 50% of 75 year olds have heard of Beyonce & Taylor?
RihFenty20 Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 Rihanna really is a retired musician. Why is she constantly missing from studies like these? Have we reached the point where she’s more known for her achievements outside of music…….
bestfiction Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 Luckily smash hit Frozen on Fire is going to change that

Severus Snape Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 To be fair I've never listened to any madonna song outside the ones that get posted on ATRL The Beatles on the other hand I've listened to each of their records

Makes sense tbh, I find it really hard to get into music from before my time as well aside from like the classics

Solaria Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 Madonna still being in the top 5, and Gaga being in the top 2 with the oldies
Protocol Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 I mean that’s honestly not that bad. You don’t know everything when you’re a teenager. You learn and become exposed to more things as you grow older. Im more surprised U2 is that low. They were huge with millennials thanks to the ‘All That You Can’t Leave Behind’ and ‘How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb’ eras but it seems that’s where they abruptly stopped Also the second list confirms Billie is the preeminent Gen Z star who has achieved much higher cultural penetration into multiple demographics, and that Olivia is still a teenagers-first phenomenon who has yet to achieve true superstardom fame.
sasashite Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 Taylor better known than Harry, who is very popular in the UK. I was told she was local.
Wildcat Posted June 1, 2022 Author Posted June 1, 2022 (edited) This is how the current pop girls fare among Gen Z, by the way 76,72% Beyoncé 75,43% Nicki Minaj 74,14% Taylor Swift 72,84% Ariana Grande 71,55% Lady Gaga 71,12% Cardi B 71,12% Dua Lipa 65,95% Doja Cat 64,66% Olivia Rodrigo Edited June 1, 2022 by Wildcat
