Things to do in London?

Recommended Posts

Going to London tomorrow again and I’m looking for things to do. I’m seeing the infinity mirror room at the Tate modern, but other than that I’m a bit stumped for things to do.

For reference, I have previously done:

  • The shard
  • cable car rides
  • sky gardens
  • history museum
  • the science museum
  • Victoria Albert museum/ gallery
  • tate modern
  • Sherlock Holmes museum
  • wax works
  • Photography gallery
  • open top bus and boats
  • Buckingham palace

-The National Gallery?

-Follow the Whitechapel route of Jack the Ripper?

-London Zoo?

-Afternoon Tea at the Ritz?

-Kew Gardens?

-Broadway / Opera / Ballet - usually in Leicester Square or Victoria

-Watch the Football / Tennis / Rugby live or in a themed-pub

-Or just get the tube and walk around exploring different regions: you'll be surprised by the high streets, rivers, architectural differences in Maida Vale, Mayfair, Sloane Square, Elephant & Castle, Crouch Hill, Hampstead, Notting Hill, Brixton etc.

......also, I started striking up conversations with local residents in the streets or restaurants and shops and making connections that way. Londoners always get so surprised, but then so happy, when you do that

some good suggestions here, I love living in London. There's always lots to do.

- Go watch a West End show. TodayTix always has cheap tickets.

- National Gallery is very pretty indeed

- Harrods is fun

- Borough Market is a personal favourite of mine, if you can get a table, have lunch/dinner in Padella

- Camden Market is also really fun

I like getting off the tube in Leicester Square, walking to Covent Garden first, then coming back to Leicester Square, walking to Piccadilly Circus, through Regent Street, take a detour to Carnaby street from Regent Street, then go to Oxford Street, walk up and down, grab a cookie at Creme near Tottenham Court Road, then walk back to Leicester Square.

How long are you going for? With that list of museums and galleries you better be staying for a few weeks, cause they'll start merging into one on a short trip.

Frankly I'd skip everything you mentioned in the OP (apart from the infinite mirror). They are just basic overcrowded tourist things with little joy to trade for. Just pick one museum or gallery and skip the rest. My personal favourite is The British Museum, but you can obviously choose something more suited to your own taste.

If you want great views of London, definitely skip the Shard, the Sky Garden and The London Eye. Instead go a relaxed walk around the Greenwich Park until you reach the hillside with the most fantastic view of London bar none. From the top of that park you can see the most modern buildings of Canary Wharf, but right beneath them you'll see the old grandeur of the Greenwich University, and the Thames. And even further down will be the hills of the park. Grab some strawberries with you and enjoy the view.

If you're gonna do cable cars, just spend some time in Royal Victoria area. You can do that on the same day with Greenwich. Just table the cable car from North Greenwich to Royal victoria. Make sure to explore the area, see the Sunborn Hotel and definitely go up the Royal Victoria Bridge for some stunning views.

The other suggestions I like in this thread are The Camden Market (make sure to go into Shaka Zulu restaurant just for the views) and Borough Market for lunch.

Go to the west end

Visit some parks-Regent park is my favourite

Have food in China Town

Visit some scenic areas-Notting Hill is my fave

Camden Market

Harry Potter Studios (if you’re a fan)

If you have time you should visit Brighton too. It’s a really nice city and has a good food scene.

Go to Frank's Cafe in Peckham for best sunset views in London. Peckham Levels is also a cool place to socialise/eat
