Halsey getting her viral moment she needed after all, I have seen a lot of people talking about this.

I feel most sorry for Aunt Flo! Flo ain’t coming to town with no tik tok deary! Their music doesn’t translate to the youths of today as well as other more digestible for pop music artist. Her label are messed up for forcing this on her.

Ellie doesn't need to do anything cause her songs always go viral for literally ZERO reason :bibliahh::rip:

It's so transparent :bibliahh:

Labels are so lazy these days. They force their artists to do promo and do the heavy lifting on TikTok without having any knowledge about how create content on the app themselves

They also want virality on the app without having any plans whatsoever for their artists too so now what :skull:

Ban TikTok. Stop signing the Jack Harlow’s off the world. Bring K-POP bootcamps to the west. Produce real stars again, thank yew!

It must be so frustrating for artists. Like you're forced to entertain young people on TikTok so they will stream your music...

Yall are such boomers :rip:

The only negative impact here is the one major record labels have over their artists. Of course they're going to capitalize on TikTok since it's the biggest thing in the world right now but that doesn't mean the evil is coming from tiktok itself.  As if they weren't forcing their artists to do stupid random **** since the beginning of times :rip: If anything posting a TikTok should be relatively easier than the things they had to do in the past.

I mean it's normal for the label to do things like these but the fact that they cant release their work without doing cheap tiktok memes or somthing is just :dies:

Wbk here on ATRL but this is honestly so sad :toofunny2: also explains the tragic music we get nowadays

I doubt anybody in this thread are boomers since most people replying are either Gen X or Millennials (80s and 90s). Boomers are born from 1946 to 1964. I'm sure we have boomers in this forum but they're not usually as active and animated as the posters from the younger generation. Gen Z is calling out TikTok too so not sure its a generational thing. Of course TikTok isn't going to get canceled lol people are just pointing out the negative impacts it has had on the music industry. TikTok IS fun for non-celebrity content especially recipes and other skills you can learn but many people (including Gen Z) aren't keen on the impact its had on the music industry.

I mean, I hate TikTok with a passion, but this strikes me as the 2022 version of “I don’t want to go on my press tour” or “Don’t make me do ANOTHER interview.” Granted, I don’t like the “if you don’t viral, then we won’t release your music” crap. Reminds me a bit of when Cyndi Lauper used to participate in wrestling events for promotion.

Why do labels seem to know so little about what stands the test of time? They're always trying to play it safe and have no long-term vision. They're following trends instead of trying to create them - it's just like Simon Cowell on X Factor all those years ago, and why most of the winners have had little longevity.

Can't blame the labels. It's the most effective way to promote your music, unfortunately. Glad I never have to use Tiktok and I never will.

Because they're capitalists. They don't care about long-term success. They wanna milk people dry until they have nothing left to give and move on to the next person. Short term profits trump everything, this is just the system we live in in the west. And that's how our economic world order makes itself present in the music industry.

Everybody's always looking for the new next thing to exploit until it's run into the ground. The music industry is gonna off TikTok's d*ck as soon as success on TikTok doesn't translate to cash anymore. Just like how the entire music industry suddenly forgot about Carpool Karaoke as soon as they stopped going viral. :rip:

Good thing I don’t use that satanic app

this is a problem in the music industry rn but how can’t people see that artists posting those tiktoks is a marketing tactic in itself? :jonny5: those tiktoks are the artists simultaneously doing promo + trying to be relatable :jonny5:

Right? I feel like every single song is pop/rock now

In fairness to Halsey, she did do this sound a long time before it blew up

I mean, before there was radio and tv talk shows, variety shows for promotion of music, but that seemed more professional; the interviews were mainly trying to understand an artists work or something like that.

TikTok is a different kind of platform that you have to be more personable on. I just saw Megan Thee Stallion dancing in a t shirt and shorts with Pardi on my FYP. I can't imagine Sade doing something like that.

This. Although I do think TikTok is here to stay for while, I don't think it will have longevity like Twitter and Instagram. I can see TikTok dying out soon when Twitter and IG come up with something innovative and fresh that can benefit not just the GP but artists and entertainers as well. It'll be interesting to see where TikTok is 5 years from now.

Social medias and apps like Tik Tok make people dumb and their negative effects have been proven through various studies, especially on young people.
