rosesbloom Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 (edited) Quote •10 signs you’ve made your career your entire identity: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •You feel worthless after a terrible day, rejection or career setback. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •You only see yourself in terms of what you do. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •All of your goals are tied to your career. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •You see criticism of your work / performance / interviews as a reflection of your personal value. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •You’re unable to enjoy other parts of your life when your career is out of whack. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •You aren’t interesting in getting to know new people, dating or maintaining friendships when you’re unhappy in your career. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •You only feel good about yourself when things are going well in your career. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •You’re unable to sleep at night because you’re tossing & turning thinking about your career. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •You constantly miss events or cancel social plans because of your work or job search. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •You’re always thinking about your career even when you’re supposed to be doing other things. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ •But, it’s important to remember that you are more than what you do and that you get to create a full life outside of your career, if you’re up for the task. •Because, at the end of the day, cultivating a life you love is truly what matters and creating a career you love, while incredibly fulfilling, is just one part of it. Richie Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 Wish her the best in life. She is young and I’m sure she can find another profession
Thinking Of You Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 She brought this on herself. No one told her to only release one song per year or to wait years to release a debut album. It’s a little too late for this reflection.
SoJro101 Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 Work life balance is healthy and necessary. Employed people with actual jobs and careers understand that.

Bimbo Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 And she releases 1 song a year… imagine if she had an album out. This industry isn’t for her I fear.

I hate the Chloe Bailey and Normani comparisons but it’s like, Normani posting something like this after we see Chloe openly sharing snippets and involving everyone in her musical world so easily. It really forces itself into a split screen of one girl rising and not afraid to mess up, taking risks, but overall taking the right steps as a new artist. Then, the other just completely falling apart after one song release each year. I hope at some point Normani just sees what Chloe, Doja, hell even Kehlani, and other girl’s in the same lane as her are doing. Just be open, drop snippets, release music, and things will fall into place. All this thinking and self-doubt is causing so many more issues.

Part of the problem is that Normani and Chloe never have been as popular as twitter has lead them to believe/thinks they are. Fair and Treat Me both bombed so hard. Wild Side and Have Mercy both did okay in the US, but they were Crazy In Love/Pon De Replay/I Kissed a Girl/Tik Tok etc and neither girl has made a dent WW the pressure for them to be successful must be so hard for them.
Rev8 Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 I feel for her Read she had problems with her team and whatnot.. along with prolly being set aback from the major expectations there was for her I do believe she will not meet expectations and everyone (incl her) knows this, and this waiting to drag (maybe she is waiting for everyone to forget so she can be calm, a sky ferreira tea) Good luck to her..

The industry is a lot different now. I think dropping an album, getting a moderate hit. Then maybe album 2 or even 3, finally getting your breakout, signature hit, is more common. Dua, Billie (sorta), Ariana (sorta part 2), Doja, Megan, Latto, Lizzo, etc. are the most recent break out artists and they all followed that general formula.

I don't think it's fair to ask newer acts to debut with that kind of success right out of the gate, because songs don't become popular like those songs did anymore without a lift from like TikTok. I will say that neither girl has been particularly consistent with releases, and I think Chloe has taken steps to fix this by doing features. Also she is much newer to the solo scene than Normani - remember Chloe x Halle put out an album as recently as 2020 and promoted it well into 2021. However with Normani, I think the window has closed. It's been 4 years since she debuted as a solo act outside of Fifth Harmony and has like nine songs to her name (and I'm being extremely generous). She should have had a project out a long time ago, and even with her recent return, she should have been consistently rolling music out. We are coming up on a year since Wild Side, and we have that song with a music video and another ballad (which quite frankly, wasn't single-worthy) that has yet to receive any type of music video or promotion other than a live performance an hour before it dropped. I don't know how much of this is the label, because Normani herself admitted that she had to be forced to put out Motivation. I don't buy that she doesn't have good representation either, because Anitta has the same manager and she is everywhere. I think Normani clearly doesn't want it bad enough, hasn't put in the work and she's not offering the music scene anything new or fresh. Her biggest strength is in dancing but we barely see her dance since she has nothing to perform, she's not a particularly exceptional vocalist so there's not much to miss, and we know nothing about her and her music doesn't do anything innovative. We don't need her, and she doesn't make herself available musically or otherwise. You reap what you sow. Edited May 20, 2022 by Obsession
EriKills Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 The pressure for success is so unhealthy, record labels need to stop having such unrealistic standards. Wild Side was a moderate hit and any other debut artist would be thrilled for a top 20 hit. She should have been allowed to release after that
Istan4R Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 She should just be an indie R&B act. She has enough fans for her music to get some attention but she should stop competing chartwise. I think people telling her she’s the next Beyoncé and her career never taking off is a lot of pressure
4Real Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 I can feel her frustration. But honestly releasing one song each year is never gonna take anyone anywhere, especially these boring ass songs she's been putting out. I understand that she probably struggles with her label and maybe what they want her to release is not how she wants to be defined as an artist, but you gotta do what you gotta do to put yourself out there so maybe she should just put out the stuff they want her to. Who knows? Maybe a pop song makes her blow up and then she can get more freedom to release whatever she likes? I remember I heard Motivation playing on the radio once and I remember thinking it was a nice bop. I truly don't believe she thinks stuff like Fair is better than that song. No way. So in a way I think her failure lies mostly upon herself for not being humble enough to understand that as an upcoming artist she needs to be open and accept what her label wants for her, not exactly what she wants play the game bb
CandleGuy Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 Um this is the opposite of worrying about her career. She's basically saying she doesn't care about her career. Which we been knew.

They are trash as a label with their artist but they still will release artist music even when it doesn't sell well. While tinashe had a delay on Joyride she still released like 6 singles joyride came out and RCA released a nightride. Tinashe stayed giving her fans content and even self released Amethyst. RCA released Zayn's last two albums even though they went huge sellers. They are doing major things for Doja right now but she still released a lot of content on her own plus her debut album before RCA took her seriously Also look at Jojo with background she released 2 mixtapes on her own while being held hostage by Blackground, then 3 ep's under Atlantic while making Mad love, plus released covers. the difference between Normani and these artists above is that they all love music and like releasing content for their fans. They either went against the label and released content or worked with the label to compromise. Normani doesn't want to be an artist she wants the life style and the fame but doesn't want to put in the work. There were many blind items that producers pulled their tracks from her because SHE was the one holding back and choosing not to release.
Stan.killah Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 I can't imagine how many millions have been spent (promo, music/producers, travel, wardrobe, music videos, etc) over the years to get her career to take off with no success or return on investment.
