Protocol Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 An interesting in-depth article about how they're re-calculating streaming worth to try to arrive at a number of album-equivalent units for each artist: https://chartmasters.org/2022/05/tuning-of-the-cspc-formula/ "Bon Appetit" and its fake YouTube views are about to get demolished
YellowRibbon Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 Taylor's gonna remain unbothered since most of her streams are on-demand...
AlexStexaul Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 china sales always seemed fraud to me. its couldnt get more irrevelant than that counting sales from that unofficial reports.
sasashite Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 To fix this flaw, from now on, featured acts, combined when there are several, will be allocated 50% of singles’ formats units. The lead singer will still get 100% of the total as before. Thus, if a song has one featured singer, he will get 50% of the singles’ formats units. If there are 4 featured acts yet, each will get a fourth of these 50%, meaning 12.5%. Rihanna, Xtina, Drake and some others about to decrease quite a bit. As they should tbh. Featured artists getting 100% of the units is pathetic.
Taylena Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 Taylor unbothered and it actually helps her numbers to increase! OTHs lose again. Quote Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, BTS, Katy Perry, Shakira and all the other artists with big YouTube presences will gain a significant amount of CSPC. For example Taylor should go from having about 1.95m CSPC from YouTube to 3.73m (used channel views). But a lot of artists are gonna lose a lot of CSPC due to the different weighting of features. For example Taylor Swift will be virtually unaffected bc she only has a couple of songs where she is a featured artist. An artist like Justin Bieber however, who has 13.5m CSPC from featured singles, could take a massive hit. Even if he had 50% of the credit on all of those featured tracks, he is still gonna lose 6.75m CSPC. Rappers like Travis Scott (10m featured CSPC) and Cardi B (10m featured CSPC) will probably be pretty affected. Drake and Eminem both have combined Orphan and Featured sections of 40m and 30m respectively, so they will both probably take massive cuts. The adjustment of Chinese sales are gonna mainly help big acts in China like the local acts and big names like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber, who still sell albeit a lot less than they used too after fan purchasing.
C-Amber Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 (edited) They should focus on calculations the sales from all artists instead of changing rules. old formula: CSPC unit = sales * price/50 new formula: CSPC unit = sales * price/50 * (1 + NI*0.5) where NI = 1 for non-idols, 0 for idols Idols are to be understood as the Asian definition of it, meaning that an idol act is a kpop, cpop or jpop group formatted by major local labels. No western artist fits this definition. Wtf is this???? How is this fair ? Edited May 20, 2022 by C-Amber

PopFan1996 Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 Adele's catalog already increased by 3.5 million units to 97,4M with this new rule change. With 30's pure sales that have yet to be counted, she definitely already hit the 100M mark and she did that with only 4 albums.
Rev8 Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 Imo could've done more in the streaming department of things //ofspotify// (/sales)
tiagol88 Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 Thank god my faves hits were almost all solo. Nit everyone can relate
Dreajae Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 This is silly to be honest. I'm here for the raw numbers but not these crazy conversion rates that are honestly overinflated no matter how you divide them.

babyforlife Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 Because only swifties who bragging about chinese sales right?
Cloröx Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 Not people here thinking this will badly affect Taylor when in reality she just added another 5M extra SPS And this excluding Chinese sales based on new formula which will be updated later on Heavily featured artists like Nicki, Drake, Rihanna and a lot of rappers will get significant reduction once he implemented this rules
WildHeart Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 "The infamous case of Badshah shocked the internet back in July 2019. His song Paagal looked like an out-of-the-blue smash, recording 75 million views during its first day, topping previous global records from the likes Taylor Swift, Blackpink, and BTS. A lot of people got suspicious about it, especially when YouTube failed to communicate the breaking of the record, something they usually do. The shock got even bigger when by the end of the week, while the video viewcount was showing over 82 million views, the song was completely absent from the YouTube’s weekly top 100 chart. The controversy got so big that the police investigated the case, forcing Badshah to admit he bought 72 million clicks in order to beat the global record."
Mohit Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 Taylor and her 2 cent worth Chinese sales are finna gonna get busted
