Velma | Max | Season 2

It was pretty funny at times but my biggest complaint is the pacing. The plot will suddenly move so fast and randomly that I have to go back 30 seconds and rewatch. Also the meta humor is fine in limited quantities but they’re def overdoing it.

This isn't as a bad as people made it out to be. It's pretty basic. The meta jokes are overkill. The characters are unlikable and serve as a response to Twitter, like most characters these days. Tries to be hard to be edgy.

Okay. I made a valid attempt to watch it and it is pretty bad. Idk if it’s as bad as people said it was, but it isn’t good either. Spoilers ahead for those reading this.

  • Sometimes race changes of established characters work well (example being The Flash tv show off the top of my head). Sometimes it’s done to provide extra depth to a character to make them more interesting. Prior to this, Velma had been the nerdy smart girl who was always somewhat queer coded. In this instance it seems like a shameless self insert that didn’t really do much to bring in anything extra to the character. I think we got one singular word that implied the ethnicity or background of Velma and it was so subtle I had to rewind to make sure that’s what I heard.

  • Shaggy’s transformation made even less sense. This is a show that seems to be playing on a lot of stereotypes and to make him a guy who vlogs about food - and NOT keep the gag about him being a massive stoner was a massive missed opportunity. If you’re going to try and make fun of everyone, go all the way with it. I will say that he was the only core member of the cast that I did actually somewhat liked. I did cackle just a little bit at his line at the end of the second episode.

  • Daphne’s new personality may have possibly made sense in an abstract kind of way… in the very beginning of the planning… if you squint… and you’re Stevie Wonder. Daphne’s whole schtick has been that she’s rich and beautiful but still likeable. In a stereotypical fictional high school, beauty does typically tend to translate to popularity so that tracks. What doesn’t is making her maybe upper middle class at most with two detective moms and being a drug dealer. Again, if you’re going to go big and you’re going to be somewhat incredibly offensively stereotypist, they should have had her piggyback on Shaggy’s Vlog and have her be insanely rich from selling weed to all his viewers - with him being her biggest customer.

  • Fred’s appearance may not have changed much but they got rid of everything about him that made him likeable in the first place. Any time the writers could make some sort of joke about him being white, they took it. He’s absolutely unhinged and so incredibly terrible as a human being that you didn’t care that he ended up in prison. I see the writers are going to find some way of making him a villain in this show which is wrong for a multitude of reasons.

  • Even though the writers made the characters vastly different, they could have kept a few of the personality quirks that everyone knows. In the first episode when Velma ran into Fred and lost her glasses she could’ve done the whole “my glasses, my glasses” bit or even updated it to “****, where are my glasses?” Even psycho Fred could’ve maybe said he’d have set an elaborate trap to kill the girls - not cut out their brains.

  • ultimately, the show is missing one key important piece that might have made this show succeed - a single ounce of likeable personality in any of the characters. If you’re going to play up the stereotypes then you need to go big and make it funny. This show simply failed to do that. It would have probably been not as harshly received if they had made it a parody of the IP or at least possibly had scooby involved to truly link it with the source material.

The first 2 episodes were fine. This doesn't deserve the hate is getting by the anti woke mob

I watched episodes 3 & 4. It’s still a pack of cliches but they weren’t as bad as the first two episodes.

I know :rip: it’s just a show, people are acting like this show killed their momma. I put this on for people who are not terminally online and they enjoyed it

stuff that isn’t well reviewed that's also created by a woman gets way much worse hate

I ended up enjoying the show once we got past the first episodes so I'm happy a season 2 is in the works :duca:

the way that this could've been a legitimate slay (even live action form) with them in their early days of being a crew. the show is a timeless classic for a reason. it has all the ingredients that make it a good property. so disappointed in how she chose to handle of all of this. for that she could've just made her own thing without tainting the property for a quick buck. surprise that this was even approved. if ya really want to see this property done justice and handled with the care and maturity ya should check out SCOOBY DOO MYSTERY INCORPERATED now THAT was a good incarnation

Fairly certain it had been green lot for two seasons at its inception. I hope the second season will be better than the first because that was a train wreck.

I had JUST about forgotten that this show exists. Let's see if season 2 is as bad as season 1.

Well… I watched the second season. It was a season. With episodes. It wasn't as bad as the first but considering how low the bar was… i don't really feel the need to rewatch or revisit this series in the future. They still try to make it way too meta with the jokes (even mentioning the word meta in reference to a piss poor breakfast club knock off/parody). The spin on Scooby and Scrappy was… meh.
