I guess it’s a good thing all of the low risk behaviors are transmission routes that preserve the economy :gaycat3:

Right? So touching contaminated clothes is high risk except when you are shopping then it becomes low risk to try on contaminated clothes because we need you to spend your money :ahh:

So is it a fast spread or a low spread. Pretty much everyone I know is getting vaccinated but will it stop the trend?

I just hope I can get the second dose. I will be traveling high and low for it!

You don’t need a 2nd dose yet, the 1st dose will provide pretty much the same protection

The 2nd dose is mainly to extend the effects of the vaccine beyond 1-2 years, wait your turn and allow others to get their 1st dose

It's definitely slower than Covid. The R0 is estimated to be around ~1.5 for gay men, meaning that each gay man will statistically infect 1.5 other people. For straight people, the R0 is below 1 - each straight person who gets monkeypox will infect less than 1 other person on average.

For comparison, the R0 for Covid wildtype was 2-3, and went up to around 7-8 for Delta I believe.

Honestly I am so disappointed that pride celebrations went on globally uninterrupted as planned including dark rooms, bathhouses etc. This was the summer to cut things down. This is not a cold, it's a very nasty painful disease. The anal sores have been described as "someone inserting a shard of glass up your rectum and twisting it around".

I was told it is not effective until 2nd dose

You are OBSESSED with this. It's saddening that you think that bathhouses are some humongous irreperable mark on the gay community. The vast, vast majority of hookups happen over apps now, and bathhouses are confined to major cities. The fact that you automatically associate anonymous sex with celebration of LGBTQ+ culture is, again, saddening.

Hit dogs will holler. I hope you've had your vaccine already. Not going to bother responding to the illogical things you throw at me that I never said. Peace be with you.

Well that’s incorrect

Many sources including the CEO of the company that produces the vaccine said the 1st dose is effective and the 2nd dose is mainly to extend the effects, which is why most places are only providing 1 dose for now.

Grindr represents the gay community.  Isn't there a TV show based off that?  That's representation.  I'm willing to bet over 85% of gays have Grindr on their iphones. Gay live in cities, not rural.  Bathhouses are in cities, not rural.  So I think you're just in denial. Sure there is a small fraction of us who live boring, sexless, old-fashioned lives, but the vast majority of us have had our hookup years.  Everyone has, not just gays.  I think if you ask anyone in the ages of 18-45 they'll think gay guys have a lot of sex, or that they are known for that.

A lot of us are in long term (mostly) monogamous relationships. That doesn’t mean we have boring sexless lives :skull:

I wasn't referring to you.  I'm included in that.  I'm just saying we all go thru our Grindr phase, and that hookup culture is a very real thing.

After weeks of calls and research, and a four hour drive each way, I FINALLY got my first shot :clap3:

And it was the full dose, not the intradermal fifth of a dose that the HHS is planning :clap3:

And I’m still very likely getting a full second dose in four weeks as the county I got it in is reserving second doses for those that have already received it :clap3:

So relieved and exhausted :deadbanana:

The Guardian: MPX vaccines in the UK to run out in 10 to 20 days.

---

Not too many governments in Asia have mentioned about the MPX or smallpox vaccines (I suppose they have nearly none in their inventories.) The Philippines mentioned that the earliest delivery for MPX vaccines would be in 2023.
