I’d say if you’re likely to sleep around or go to circuit parties in the next few months then go ahead and get the vaccine. If you think you can stay abstinent until the vax is widely available then try to hold off.

No point in getting the vaccine if you’re not likely to be exposed but if you think you might get exposed then you might be saving yourself and others you’ll come into contact with in the process.

I mean I'm single and dating but not having sex with every single person I meet? and I might go to some clubs once or twice a month but I'm not doing circuit parties? *never heard of that lol)

Well. Supposedly it should prevent you from getting monkeypox. We’re really too early into this current wave to know whether the existing vaccines work against the current strain though.

I already got vaccinated against MP since last week. According to my GP I should have vaccine's full protection by next week (14 days after the first dose)

It's also 2 weeks or so after the Lady Gaga's concert. I can eliminate the risk of getting MP from there, but I might need to do some other STDs test cuz it is kinda itchy down there :bibliahh:

Odd, pretty much all the current literature says that you’re not fully protected until two weeks after your second dose. I’m sure one dose offers a decent amount of protection though.

I would say just go ahead and get the vaccine if you’re sexually active.

If you or your partner have (or think you might have) monkeypox and you decide to have sex, consider the following to reduce the chance of spreading the virus:

  • Have virtual sex with no in-person contact.
  • Masturbate together at a distance of at least 6 feet, without touching each other and without touching any rash.
  • Consider having sex with your clothes on or covering areas where rash is present, reducing as much skin-to-skin contact as possible. If the rash is confined to the genitals or anus, condoms may help; however, condoms alone are likely not enough to prevent monkeypox.
  • Avoid kissing.
  • Remember to wash your hands, fetish gear, sex toys and any fabrics (bedding, towels, clothing) after having sex. Learn more about infection control.
  • Having multiple or anonymous sex partners may increase your chances of exposure to monkeypox. Limiting your number of sex partners may reduce the possibility of exposure.
  • Avoid touching the rash. Touching the rash can spread it to other parts of the body and may delay healing.

Soon, governments will be talking about learning to live with MPX.

I live in Asia and I guess most countries don't have access to the Jynneos vaccines, so most governments are not talking vaccinating the general populations. At least you guys in the West have a limited supply of vaccines.

The data showed that the virus strain present in the country is A.2, that was recently imported to India from the Middle East. It was earlier present in Thailand and the US during the 2021 outbreak. However, the strain that caused superspreader events in Europe, was due to B.1.

___________

So, on top of Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Omicron BA1, BA2, BA2.75, BA4, BA5, we should also be well-acquainted with A.2 and B.1 MPX strains soon.

If herpes, HIV and HPV are all STDs(which you can get without having sex/sexual contact, but mainly thru sex) how/why is monkeypox any different? Curious what is making this different from those. Monkeypox sounds like a STD just as those

The fact the lions share of vaccines are going to blue states, instead of equally shared with red or purple states, will be highly politicized. Seeing a lot of complaints.

Probably same reason why chickenpox isn't an STD. You can get monkeypox from touching someone's skin, that's not possible for HIV/HPV/herpes

But it is technically entirely possible to get HPV/Herpes from skin contact

Almost every monkeypox infection has been from sexual contact, no?

Of course you can get herpes if you touch lesions on someone's lip or something, but it isn't all over your entire body.

Not cuz of the sex, but cuz they were in close contact

Soo. If I caught herpes, not because of the sex, but because I was in close contact, does that mean I don't have an STD? I'm not trying to argue I'm just genuinely curious how something that is 99% spreading via sexual contact isn't being labeled as an std

No, that’s mainly in the U.S and even there some states are now opting for the 1 dose.

You are well protected 2 weeks after 1 dose, the 2nd dose is just to extend the effects of the vaccine for a longer period.

Bavarian Nordic CEO Paul Chaplin, an immunologist, also embraces the single dose plan.
Studies have shown that immune responses triggered by a single shot of the MVA vaccine declines after 2 years, which is why the approved vaccine schedule calls for a second shot.

But Chaplin says immune memory is so robust after a single dose that a booster given 2 years later leads to the same immune response as the standard schedule.

If countries decide to use single shots now, they have a long time to add the booster and still achieve the durability benefit, he believes. “There are a lot of data to support the single shot,” Chaplin says.
