because straights never check with docs etc. when they have anything lol

Exactly why i am pissed off with that article, confining it to gay men. Just like HIV, when straight folks were equally affected back in the 80's.

Waiting for conservatives to eat this up and use it to further set the US back...

This better not be another crisis for our community :biblio:

You can get monkeypox without even having sexual contact :rip:

This is a mess that needs to be contained.

not another pandemic

How easily does this spread? They need to contain this so it doesn’t turn into Covid 2.0.

First thing I did when I read this was make the link to AIDS :deadbanana4: I smell a stunt

The stigmatization tho. The amount of headlines I've seen highlighting the "male homosexual" is concerning :biblio:

It actually was transmited from the monkey to a rat and then passed on to humans

Some points I'd like to make so you don't panic. I understand the panic everytime a new virus comes out (it's happened with several influenza viruses over these two years but this one is getting more traction cause it's happening in Europe vs the east and south)

- First of all, everyone over 42 should be vaccinated against smallpox. The smallpox vaccine is 80-85% effective against monkeypox

- Transmission of Monkeypox only happens with very close contact, mostly to fluids (semen and pus mostl, but also prolongued contact with droplets from someone who's infected. These conclusions are based on how the actual strain we have in Europe acted in Africa. The strain hasn't changed or become more infectious. To back this up most cases are related either to people who come from Africa or from people who have had unprotected sex. Since the chain is the same as the west African one and so far it shows transmission is not airborne and transmission by droplets is very rare, experts can say that, the strain we have right now, is extremely unlikely (probably close to zero possibilities) that it becomes a pandemic or even an epidemic similar to COVID.

- Theres frozen smallpox vaccines 85% effective against cases of monkeypox. With big amounts of the population already being somewhat  immune to monkeypox, the contagions will be cut massively as it will stay for the most part in people who are under 40, which are the only ones who'd have to be vaxxed in case it becomes a pandemic . We also have effective treatments with efficacies similar to Pavlovid. These treatments also control future outbreaks and had been demonstrated to wok against monkeypox.

Monkeypox is literally the opposite of COVID. COVID was a very contagious, unknown, airborn disease we had zero treatment for. We know how Monkeypox is transmitted, how to stop transmission (isolation of those who had very close contact with people with monkeypox wounds or other symptoms, but only those with symptoms), huge immunity in people over 42 years old and vaccines ready to be manufactured and some even ready to be used. Also, post-infection vaccine treatment since to also work so we have like a huge arsenal of weapons against an enemy we had no weapons against and it was way stronger.

Stay away from Arizona please. :skull:

The speculation in here :skull:

From what Ive read it can be transferred through droplets entering the mouth, eyes or nose.

Just basing on how covid first ran rampant in one city with people fainting in the street. Before Italy exported it to everyone else. Im holding on to hope this isn’t going that same way. :dancehall3:

No they weren’t, only heroin addicts

STDs spread more with gays because gays have way more sex with different partners

Stop downplaying it!!!

From the CDC:

Quote

The illness typically lasts for 2−4 weeks. In Africa, monkeypox has been shown to cause death in as many as 1 in 10 persons who contract the disease.

You also get scarring over your whole body

What kind of right wing thinking is this :rip:

Heterosexuals have just as much sex as homosexuals sometimes even more. If anything homosexuals are more aware of it and thus go more to the doctors

It’s not right wing thinking, it’s a fact. Any public health specialist agrees. Read ‘And the Band Played On’ which details the first decade of the AIDS epidemic. It never spread among straight people aside from unfortunate souls who got a bad blood transfusion and heroin addicts (because of shared needles). In general, gay men have MUCH higher rates of all STDs and it’s because of having much more sex with multiple partners. Go look it up. This is reality. You can accept it or not, it won’t change reality.

A lot of gay men are so surrounded by other gays and deeply ignorant of the average sex life of straight people that they do not realize that hooking up with a new guy every couple weeks (or much more often than that) is in fact NOT the norm whatsoever outside of gays.
