Broken Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 (edited) An internal memo distributed to Netflix employees advises them that if they are offended by the streamer’s “content breadth,” they should quit. The reference appears to be in response to Dave Chappelle’s controversial stand-up special, “The Closer,” which prompted LGBTQ employees and supporters to walk out in protest over his anti-trans and homophobic jokes. At the time, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos sided with Chappelle and now he’s doubled down by telling employees that if anyone is going anywhere, it should be them. https://www.thewrap.com/netflix-memo-employees-quit-if-offended-by-content/ Edited May 16, 2022 by Broken
Gaia Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 As they should. They have no responsibility to cater to their employees personal opinions about their content. Employment is a 2 way street. If you don’t like it then quit.
robattack332 Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 Good. People working at Netflix will have no problem finding work. The fact that they are staying shows they have no actual principles. If they truly believe this content was "dangerous", they would have found employment elsewhere by now.

FOCK Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 9 minutes ago, Revolution said: It's not just employees who are quitting Netflix. What these graphs don't contextualise is The massive growth they saw at the pandemic peak + their original viewership numbers evening out again now The impact of inflation The rise of competitors The discontinuation of service in Russia Netflix's transition from DVD to streaming was actually much worse in terms of sub drops than what they're currently experiencing. They'll be fine & are still the biggest streaming platform. Netflix has an unmatched representation of LGBTQ content and trans actors in their series' and discrimination doesn't seem to be an issue at their actual place of work. Comedy can be offensive. This entire thing is so extra.
Beyonce-Minaj Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 (edited) I'm totally against anti-LGBTQ+ propaganda, but I think a more prudent route would be for the employees to find ways to fund a Netflix project that refutes Chappelle's comedy, so that all parties can win. Certain subjects should be off-limits; it's just that the majority of society is not ready to accept particular bans until minds have been educated and evolved. Be resourceful, make and then leverage a platform to persuasively sway Chappelle from exercising anti-LGBTQ+ jokes. The employees and the cause win by profiting off the lessons, which in turn can get the masses to band together to terminate societies' fallacious mindset that it's ethical to produce jokes at the expense of affronting non-heteros. Chappelle wins because his projects stay and are used as examples of what NOT to do, while in the process, he converts and ceases with the anti-LGBTQ+ entertainment, since if he fails to comply, it would drive consumers away from his brand. Problem solved, although easier said than done. If Chappelle opted to joke about the holocaust survivors and/or the Ukraine victims, would Netflix then cancel? If so, what justifies their action in doing so? Due to the matter being overtly offensive? Okay, well, the level of severity on the subject may arguably be the crème de la crème of faux-pas topics, however it can be disputed that albeit slavery and LGBT oppression may be big no-nos to a lesser degree, all the themes aforementioned as a whole are unacceptable in nature. It's like un-provokingly punching someone in the face or shooting them in the leg. Both deeds are NOT acceptable by any metric and can indisputably create the same level of negative effect on the victim, yet one is worse than the other; so it's probably best to avoid either as they're seen to be in the same family of immorality. A hyena will painfully kill a human, but a lion and tiger would go for the instant kill, resulting in a painless death. Again, both concepts are equally vile but one is, in a sense, a lesser of two evils. All matters considered, should Eddie Murphy now renege his apology towards the LGBTQ+ community for his offensive jokes on homosexuals in the past??? Edited June 2, 2022 by Beyonce-Minaj
Lyrique Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 (edited) Love this. Stop trying to appease the Woke mob. Nothing is ever enough for them and they're so irrational. Edited May 16, 2022 by Lyrique

They have 40 million more subscribers now than they did at the start of the pandemic. Unlike every other streaming service, Netflix has everything to lose since they are the most dominant in the industry. They are going to continue losing subscribers due to increased competition and the fact that people can actually go out again, but this will eventually stabilize. @OP Netflix has the most solid offering of LGBTQ+ content out of any major streaming platform and continues to commit to providing us new shows and future seasons of queer-based content. Disney can't even do that, they forced Love, Victor onto Hulu because they were afraid it would scare Disney+ subscribers. HBO Max puts out one new show per every 500 years and barely has any new LGBTQ+ led shows and movies. Edited May 16, 2022 by Archetype
Steve Jobs Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 The whole memo is beyond embarrassing. They know the ship is about to sink and the girlies are getting desperate.

CroNich Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 This thread I would say never change ATRL but y'all need some serious help if you are defending anti-LGBT propaganda in this day and age. The internalised homophobia/transphobia is jumping out. I just love how people are villianised for trying to stand up for the rights of trans people. Its not that hard to be funny without shitting on already marginalised communities who are already at risk of abuse and death just by walking out the door as themselves.
bidet Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 (edited) Netflix has been **** lately but I 100% support this millennials will whine no matter what Edited May 16, 2022 by bidet

I said I'm assuming you'd have the same attitude if someone was making racist jokes in their show and employees had a problem with that Yes I do feel the same way. As an employee you can voice your opinion but the company doesn’t need to do anything about it. In that situation, it’s up to the employee to leave the situation.
arceus Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 I mean those woke LGBTQIA+ employees can just watch Heartstopper if they don't like Dave Chapelle's comedy and shut up tbh
Johnny Jacobs Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 That's unprofessional but netflix is trash so bye
DatChickDoe Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 Hate should never have a platform. There is already a massive issue with it. Especially in the US.
ConceptD Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 Not people calling a joke during a stand up show ‘anti lgbtq+ propaganda’. Step outside. This was the right thing for them to do.
Oxy Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 Like every ***** show is so about gender equality, with action women are started to look masculine with a buzzcut like they despise femme fatales. They speak about representations yet I only see either black and white, also race swap any iconic characters but it’s a disrespect to both sides, when minorities should have their original icons and characters. Give us plot lines, grand storytelling, and all the studios trying to emulate A24 vibe of movies and gloomy scripts.
